Donald Dirren Says These Countries Should Top Your Post-Pandemic Travel List

Looking to get away from home and enjoy an adventure once lockdowns end and international travel becomes common? Frequent traveler Donald Dirren, Phoenix, AZ resident, suggests you check these places out.

Vaccines may finally bring the COVID-19 pandemic under control. While global society still has a long way to go, many people are looking forward to potential getaways. Donald Dirren, who has traveled to many countries and locales, suggests you consider these places if you’re looking for an adventure.

“Many countries are opening up to vaccinated travelers,” Donald Dirren says. “If you’re fully vaccinated, you may be able to travel right now, although your travel list may be a bit limited and many places are still maintaining strict social distancing rules.”

For example, vaccinated Americans (among others) can travel to Greece right now. Greece is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world and for good reason. The ancient temples, great food, and often perfect weather make it an awesome place to unwind. And the popular island resorts offer luxury but are generally quite affordable.

Yet you may face curfews, find restaurants closed, and many popular tourist spots, like museums, could still be shut down. Hopefully, in the months ahead, they’ll open up.

“With government authorities trying to reduce crowds, it’s a great time to get back to nature,” Donald Dirren notes. “There are some great beaches in the Caribbean, including the Bahamas and Aruba. Sometimes, these spots are too crowded for my tastes, but right now, many are less busy than usual.”

Besides beaches, a hike through a jungle offers a great way to get out and about without having to expose yourself to crowds. Costa Rica offers good weather and beautiful, sustainable hiking opportunities and stays. The country has also begun to allow some tourists in.

Further south, Ecuador is also welcoming some tourists as well. In Ecuador, you can visit ancient Inca ruins, explore forests, mountains, and jungles, and otherwise have a great time.

“Central and South America have long been popular among American tourists and for good reason,” Donald Dirren points out, “the sights are often beautiful, the weather can be great, and many countries are only a short plane ride away.”

Donald Dirren Recommends Travel Insurance and Vaccination Before Traveling

If you’re going to travel, it’s wise to take out travel health insurance. This was true before the pandemic but is especially important right now.

“Your health insurance may not cover you while you’re traveling,” Donald Dirren says. “If so, you should take out travel insurance. You want to ensure you can access good healthcare if there’s an accident or if you contract a disease, including COVID-19.”

Many countries are also only allowing vaccinated people to enter. By getting vaccinated you can both protect your health and increase the number of countries you can travel to.

“If you want to enjoy Greece and many other places, you may need to get vaccinated,” Donald Dirren says. “It’s also wise to reduce health risks when traveling, so even if you can enter without being vaccinated, it’s still wise to protect yourself.”
