Maryland University of Integrative Health Provost Receives Extraordinary Service and Leadership Award

Laurel, Md. – Maryland University of Integrative Health is pleased to announce that Dr. Christina Sax, Provost and Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs has received the University Professional and Continuing Education Association’s (UPCEA) Mid-Atlantic Award for Extraordinary Leadership and Service. This recognition is given to an individual for extraordinary contributions to the mission of serving adult non-traditional students, outstanding service to UPCEA, and significant accomplishments in the field.

Dr. Sax has over twenty-five years of experience as a higher education faculty member and administrator, all of which has been focused on serving adult non-traditional students through online and non-traditional learning experiences. She is a nationally recognized expert in online education and was among those who pioneered the field in the late 1990s. She was one of the founding co-directors of the nationally known Quality Matters project and has received several awards for her work in the field. Dr. Sax has served as a UPCEA officer and Board member and has held numerous additional leadership positions within UPCEA’s Mid-Atlantic region and at the national level. Dr. Sax holds a Ph.D. in Human Genetics and a B.S. in Microbiology.

More than 85% of Americans enrolled in postsecondary institutions are non-traditional learners[1] and more than 6.9 million (35%) students are enrolled in distance education courses at degree-granting postsecondary institutions[2].
