An eagle-eyed Resident Evil 2 player has found a cool easter egg for Red Dead Redemption 2 while navigating the terrifying setting.
A Resident Evil 2 remake player has spotted an easter egg for Red Dead Redemption 2 while navigating the halls of the Raccoon City Police Department. Capcom’s remake of their popular survival horror game completely re-envisioned the original with a third-person style, allowing players to explore every bloody nook and cranny for all sorts of secrets.
The remake of the 1998 original came out only a few short months after the universally acclaimed sequel to the open-world Western smash, and in the process earned its own bevy of rave reviews and satisfied fans. Taking on the role of either Leon Kennedy or Claire Redfield, players navigate a series of terrifying locales as they survive a zombie outbreak, and encounter even more deadly challenges along the way. Red Dead Redemption 2 featured slightly fewer zombies, but in its place offered a compelling story to unfold and a staggering map to explore, allowing players to unlock more weapons, boots, vests and hats than the mind can comprehend.
While Red Dead Redemption takes place at the tail-end of the 19th century, one of those bits of costuming somehow survived a solid century and made its way to Raccoon City and into the zombie apocalypse. One eagle-eyed Reddit user, sigmas21, spotted the default hat of Red Dead Redemption 2 main character Arthur Morgan while avoiding the undead at the police station. Said hat is in as pristine a condition as a 100-year-old could hope to be, and it even managed to avoid any blood splatters.
The Red Dead Redemption series is no stranger to hordes of flesh-eating vandals, and after the release of the wildly popular Red Dead Redemption in 2010, it was followed up with the expansion, Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare. That expansion lets players re-control John Marston as he tries to figure out why citizens of the small early-20th-century township were eating each others’ brains, with some rumors in the past hinting the undead could be back for a sequel. Resident Evil 2 itself has a fair amount of easter eggs, leaving plenty to be explored that call back other games in the series.
Players love a good easter egg, and while fans may be always on the lookout for any that reference other games in a series – or even a similar one – it makes finding ones from a completely different type of game all the more rewarding. This one, in particular, may be just as much a nod to Red Dead Redemption 2 as it is Undead Nightmare, because if you’re in the zombie business, you gotta respect a Wild West outbreak.
