The first trailer for Netflix’s upcoming Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous shows unseen events from the background of the 2015 film. Universal’s Jurassic World revived the beloved dinosaur franchise with a new adventure that saw the infamous theme park finally open for business. Starring Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, Jurassic World became a smash hit and quickly ushered in a new age of Jurassic projects. On the big screen, a sequel followed in 2018, and the third and final film, Jurassic World: Dominion, is expected to arrive in theaters in June 2021.
As fans await that next cinematic adventure, the Jurassic World franchise is headed to television. Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous was officially announced last year after reports surfaced that Universal was looking to take the property to Netflix. The animated series will follow a group of teenagers who visit the adventure camp Cretaceous on the other side of Isla Nublar during the events of Jurassic World. At first, Camp Cretaceous is like a dream, but when the dinosaurs escape their enclosures, everything falls apart, and the teens must rely on each other to survive.
Netflix has unveiled the first official trailer for Camp Cretaceous, which gives audiences their first look at the teens and the dinos who will be hunting them down. Camp Cretaceous features the vocal talents of Paul-Mikél Williams, Jenna Ortega, Ryan Potter, Raini Rodriguez, Sean Giambrone, Kausar Mohammed, Jameela Jamil, and Glen Powell. In addition to the trailer, Netflix has revealed the series will premiere on September 18. Check out the trailer down below.
The Camp Cretaceous trailer features some shots that might look familiar to fans of Jurassic World. Not only are campers spotted in the gyrospheres from the first two films, there’s a quick glimpse of the mosasaurus, or the fearsome creature that lives in the water and emerges at the end of Jurassic World to kill the Indominus rex. It’ll be interesting to see if Camp Cretaceous actually intersects with Jurassic World in any way, or if it will just remain in the background. Nevertheless, Camp Cretaceous looks like a fun new addition to the franchise and can further develop what Isla Nublar was like when the park was open.
At the very least, Camp Cretaceous can serve as something to tide over those impatiently awaiting Jurassic World: Dominion. While production was delayed for a few months due to the coronavirus pandemic, it recently picked back up again. So far, work on Dominion continues on, and provided there are no further delays, it will still arrive next June. In the meantime, they have Camp Cretaceous to look forward to in September.
