Xmind Launches AI Agent for Mind Maps and Opens Its Platform to ChatGPT and Claude

The company, which says it has more than 100 million users, now lets people develop maps through conversation and connect them to outside AI assistants

Xmind today launched Xmind Agent, an AI agent that works inside its mind maps and helps people develop ideas through conversation. The company also released Xmind MCP and a ChatGPT plugin, which allow AI assistants such as Claude and ChatGPT to create, read and update Xmind maps.

Xmind was founded in 2006 and says its software is used by more than 100 million people in over 190 countries.

The company built the agent around a problem that has grown with the use of AI at work. Assistants can produce research, summaries and lists of options in minutes, but someone still has to read the output and decide what to do with it. A product manager who asks an assistant to summarize 30 customer interviews gets 30 summaries back, and the hard part of the afternoon is still ahead.

With Xmind Agent, users can turn an idea, a file or a Notion document into a new map, or open an existing map and ask the agent to help develop it. The agent reads what is already on the map, can bring in research from the web, and keeps comparing options and answering follow-up questions as the work goes on, so the map changes along with the user’s thinking.

Xmind says the agent organizes material to suit the task. Meeting notes are sorted into decisions and to-dos, and a comparison sets out the strengths and limitations of each option to help users weigh trade-offs. Users can also ask the agent to expand a topic, merge sections, reorder branches or change the styling, and can edit the map by hand at any point. Finished maps can be turned into Notion documents.

“As AI becomes more capable, human judgment matters more than ever,” said Mango Du, Co-founder of Xmind. “We want Xmind to give people and AI a shared visual context to explore ideas, weigh possibilities, and build understanding together. With Xmind Agent, that process evolves through conversation, while people decide what matters and where to take it.”

Connecting to ChatGPT and Claude

Xmind MCP is built on the Model Context Protocol, an open standard for linking AI assistants with other software, and works with Claude and other compatible assistants. The ChatGPT plugin offers similar functions inside ChatGPT. Both are available now.

Through either connection, an assistant can save a research conversation as an editable map, or read the goals, requirements and decisions in an existing map before drafting a document, planning a project or writing code. It can also add new findings to the original map or place them on a new sheet in the same file. Xmind says edits made through MCP are kept in version history, so an earlier version of the map can be restored.

For teams, this means the reasoning behind a plan can live in one file that both colleagues and AI tools can open, instead of being spread across separate chat histories.

Availability and pricing

Xmind Agent is available now on web, desktop and Android, and is coming soon to iOS. It is offered on every Xmind plan and uses AI credits. Free and Pro users receive a one-time allotment of 50 credits, and Premium subscribers receive 500 credits a month. A task uses anywhere from a few to several dozen credits, depending on its complexity. Chat history syncs across devices.

iPhone Duo

Xmind has also released a version optimized for iPhone Duo, Apple’s first foldable iPhone. It includes layouts designed for the folding screen, such as a view that shows an outline on one half and the map on the other.

On October 11, Apple Executive Chairman Tim Cook met Xmind Co-founder Mango Du, Head of Product Bruce Wong, and VP of Creative and Head of Design Tone Xin in Guangzhou. Xin showed Cook how he uses Xmind to plan where to eat in the city, and the team described its work on iPhone Duo.
