How To Pick The Right Workout Shoe

Princeton,NJ/ 360prwire/ December 3/

When it comes to your workout gear, a good pair of shoes is one of the most important investments you will make. Your shoes can make or break your entire workout.  From how your body performs during your workout to how you feel afterward. With so many different types and styles of shoes available, how do you know which is the right one for you? Read on for some excellent tips to help guide you through picking out the right workout shoe for you.

Sole Searching

Unfortunately, not all shoes are created equal so shoes that work well for one activity, might not work so well for another activity. For instance, a good running shoe can provide cushioning and absorb shock. This generally requires a thicker sole that might become a trip hazard when worn for indoor activities like working with your personal trainer at home. Identifying what activities you will be participating in the most is the first step to finding the right shoe. There are three basic categories that athletic shoes are grouped into; running, training, and walking. No matter what type of shoe you are shopping for they must fit correctly.

If The Shoe Fits

There is more to a perfectly fitting shoe than simply finding your numerical size. Start by finding a good shoe store that can help you measure both the length and width of your foot. You should be able to fit your thumb in between your longest toe and the toe of the shoe. Additionally, your foot should be able to move side-to-side within the front of the shoe without falling over the edge of the insole.  Another important factor in finding the right fit is to go shoe shopping in the afternoon.  Our feet tend to swell during the day as much as half a shoe size. Buying a pair of shoes first thing in the morning could make for an uncomfortable and restrictive shoe by midday.

Lastly, the type of sock you wear to try on shoes is going to have an impact. If you wear athletic socks to workout in, you probably don’t want to try on shoes wearing a thin dress sock. Once you feel like you’ve got the right fit, take a stroll or jog around the store in them. Recreate some of the movements you will be doing in the shoes to see how you feel in them.

Consider Your Feet-ures

The last thing to consider about your new shoes is the characteristics that are individual to your feet. Maybe you have a high arch and need a good instep. Perhaps you have weak ankles and need strong support there. Never think that whatever is unique about your feet is something that can’t be accommodated. These are the most important things to consider when looking for a good pair of shoes.

Now you have all the information you need to help you find a great pair of workout shoes. Having the right fit, style, and support you need will create the perfect foundation whether you are going for a run or working out with a virtual personal trainer
