Most of us are aware of Botox injections, Dermal fillers, and Vitamin treatments – separately. I’ve been hearing a lot about this treatment that combines all of them into one, so I decided to give it a try. The treatment is called AquaGold and makes use of a superficial Botox injection and is available at select locations, such as MiracleFace Medspa located in Midtown West of Manhattan. I had gotten Botox and dermal fillers in the past, but wasn’t actually aware that they could be injected superficially to be used as a skin treatment. AquaGold is a treatment that involves the injection of a custom solution through the use of a gold plated microneedling tool. I don’t have any major issues with my skin other than some pores that are a little larger than I’d like them to be and a few black heads here and there. I wanted to try the treatment to see what kind of results I would actually get, as someone who has generally okay skin, here’s how it went.
I scheduled my appointment with Dr. Schwarzburg, M.D. to consult with him about whether or not the treatment would be good for me or if another treatment would be a better option. It turns out that AquaGold can be used on almost anyone and that my skin has a tendency to become dry, making me the perfect candidate for the treatment because it also hydrates your skin.
The treatment is supposed to work in a few different ways. The serum that is injected with the microneedling tool contains Botox, Hyaluronic Acid, Peptides, and Vitamin C. Unlike a typical Botox treatment, the Botox is actually injected more superficially, which is supposed to minimize your pores. You can read more about Botox and how it works by visiting their website. The Hyaluronic Acid hydrates your skin, while the Peptides and Vitamin C offer direct nourishment to your skin.
The treatment itself was fairly quick and I had a total of three sessions over the course of three weeks. When I arrived, my face was sanitized and a topical numbing cream containing lidocaine was applied. After about 15 – 20 minutes the numbing cream was removed and my face was sanitized again. The AquaGold tool was about the size of a thumb, which made it way less intimidating than other skin treatments I had gotten in the past. Essentially, the tool has a bunch of tiny little needles attached to the end of it which penetrates up to 4mm deep into the skin. The needles are hollow which allows the serum to be injected directly into your skin. This sounds painful, but I was actually pleasantly surprised at how painless the treatment was, especially with the numbing cream. It took about 15 minutes to complete and I left with the serum still on my face. I was told not to wash my face until I went to bed.
Over the course of the first 3 – 5 days following the first session, I broke out a little bit, which I learned was to be expected during the first week. Once my mini breakout had passed, I noticed a bit of a decrease in the size of my pores, but nothing dramatic. The treatment is designed to work its magic over the course of several sessions, so I was prepared to see little to no results after the first session. One week later I had my second session, followed by my third session after the second week.
After the third session I noticed real improvement in the size of my pores and less dryness in my skin. I also felt like my face looked overall more refreshed and plump, which was likely the result of the hyaluronic acid and Vitamin C hydrating my skin.
Overall I was happy with my results, though I would mainly recommend the treatment if you are able to do at least two sessions. One session will make somewhat of a difference, but three sessions is where I was really able to see a change.
