Transform the Way You Care for Your Skin

Many of us get settled into our typical skincare routine, following it day in and day out, without a second thought. We found a few products that sort of worked well enough and, out of fear of making our skin worse or just a lack of knowledge about what’s out there, have never thought about changing it up.

If you are taking that approach, it’s totally understandable, and if it works perfectly for you, great. But for many of us, we have to admit to ourselves that we’ve settled for “good enough.”

It’s time that we stop settling. It’s time to transform the way that we care for our skin.

Try Something New

A wise person (actually, Einstein) once said, “the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.” Though we all know that this quote wasn’t meant literally, the sentiment still stands.

If you keep using the same skincare routine over and over and expect your skin to just magically wake up and fix itself one day, you’ll be very disappointed, because it just doesn’t work like that.

Even if you just change one thing, try something new. Add a new facewash for a week, order a nice new face cream from Topicals, drink some extra water, or do all of the above. You won’t know if it helps until you try it.

Work from the Inside Out

When you think of your skin, you think of the outside of your body. This is correct, your skin is the largest organ of your body that covers the whole of it, but healthy skin doesn’t generate itself.

If you want to truly transform your skin, you have to work from the inside out. Many of our skin issues come from improper nutrition, which means we don’t get enough vitamins and nutrients necessary to make our skin look and feel its best. Try eating a vegetable or two and you may be surprised how much good it can do your skin.

The biggest culprits to be blamed here are foods high in fat and sugar (bummer, we know.) Try cutting down on the cheese intake for a week and see if your persistent acne clears up. Skip your favorite candy and see if your skin looks more vibrant than it did before.

Think Outside of the Box

Aside from nutrition, our skin always suffers from dehydration and lack of sleep.

You may notice that these two things are brought up with nearly every health concern you may have, and that’s for a reason. They are two very basic needs that we all have no matter who we are, and if we deny our bodies the rest and water that they need to function, stuff goes wrong.

As busy as we all get and as much as we like to pretend we can survive on little to no sleep, we are actually humans and not machines. Treat these two things as non-negotiables.

Use More Natural Ingredients

While you’re taking care of your body’s health for the sake of your skin, try getting a little more natural with your skin itself. It’s tempting to use face washes that have a million different acne-fighting ingredients, but all of that stuff could be doing more harm than good.

Look for things that are gentler on your skin and are packed with naturally-derived ingredients like ones made from botanicals.

Be Kind and Patient with Yourself

The most important thing to keep in mind when you’re undergoing this transformation? Be patient with yourself. Like we mentioned before, you are just a person, and what really counts is that you are working toward the better skin you deserve.
