Maryland University of Integrative Health to offer Spring 2021 Intake of its Master of Science in Herbal Product Design & Manufacture Program

Laurel, Md. – Maryland University of Integrative Health is pleased to announce that it will offer a Spring 2021 trimester intake for its Master of Science in Herbal Product Design & Manufacture program due to high and growing demand within the last two years. This growth reaffirms MUIH’s mission to continue to provide relationship-based, patient-centered holistic health and wellness. MUIH offers the only such degree in the U.S.

The MS in Herbal Product Design and Manufacture program prepares graduates with the skills and knowledge in herbal medicine, scientific practice, and research necessary to contribute to the growth of the herbal manufacturing field with an understanding of product development. Students develop expertise combining the abilities of a medicinal plant researcher and herbalist with that of a medicine maker. This hybrid program includes online courses and limited intensive in-person experiences on-campus.

“MUIH is pleased to offer this unique program for individuals interested in entering the rapidly growing herbal products field, and the growth of this program reflects increasing career opportunities in the field. Whether graduates seek roles in companies, or government and regulatory agencies, or as entrepreneurs, they will be well-grounded in scientific rigor, quality assurance principles and practice, and herbal medicine traditions,” said Dr. Christina Sax, Provost and Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs at MUIH.

Since 2004 the herbal supplement industry continues to expand and provide career opportunities with U.S. herbal supplement retail sales totaling over $8 billion.[1] The content and design for MUIH’s program were informed by the guidance of MUIH’s herbal design business advisory group over three years, with representation from nationally recognized industry leaders, federal agencies, and trade associations in the herbal product field.

As one of the very few accredited universities in the U.S. to offer graduate programs in herbal medicine, MUIH has delivered masters programs in herbal medicine beginning with the launch of the first U.S. herbal medicine master’s degree in 2002. MUIH also offers three additional graduate programs in herbal medicine: M.S. Clinical Herbal Medicine; Post-Baccalaureate Certificate Cannabis Science: Therapeutics, Product Design, and Quality Assurance; and Post-Baccalaureate Certificate Herbal Studies.
