Internet Users Demand Diversity In Fashion With ‘Vogue’ Covers Of Themselves

The latest ‘#VogueChallenge’ on social media saw people around them world recreating their own Vogue covers to encourage diversity in the fashion industry.

The hashtag prompts the sentiment of how the fashion world can be more representative moving forward. The challenge was first started by Oslo-based student Salma Noor amid the anti-racism protests across the world. She shot a stunning photograph of herself and edited the Vogue title above along with the headline, “Being black is not a crime.”

“I am a Black, young Muslim woman who wanted to create something new while speaking on something that is very important,” Noor shared in an interview with Vogue last week.

Soon, hoards of entries were flooded on social media platforms with the hashtag ‘#VogueChallenge’. Vogue’s senior fashion news writer Janelle Okwodu highlighted the challenge in the publication’s feature on the trend. She acknowledged that “few women, people of color, and nonbinary individuals have ever been granted those opportunities.”
