
A time-of-flight (TOF) camera visualizes an object’s distance by measuring the time of flight of light.

Principle of TOF cameras
A TOF camera mainly consists of a lens, a detector that detects light, and a light source that synchronizes with it. The reference light emitted by the onboard light source is reflected by the object, and the time it takes for the light to reach the detector (time of flight) is measured.
The speed of light is about 300,000 km/s and is an invariable constant. The distance of the grain from the object is, therefore, equal to half the product of the two.
