CBD Oil for Weight Loss

As per the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), two of every three Americans are overweight or suffer from obesity. While the traditional methods, such as exercise and diet are the way to go for weight reduction, CBD is the latest alternative medical treatment that promises to reduce weight loss in humans by helping it balance the hormones in the system.

If you are looking to achieve your ideal weight, then this article holds a certain importance for you. Read one to learn about the reasons why CBD oil does have the potential to help in weight reduction.

What is CBD?

CBD, short for cannabidiol, is a natural compound formed in the cannabis plant. The miraculous part of this product is that unlike its siblings (marijuana and hashish) CBD contains very little amount of THC, a popular compound that is primarily responsible for producing the ‘high’ in the human brain. Thus, CBD is a non-psychoactive substance and in no way, can intoxicate you.

This is one reason why CBD has been legalized in all 50 states of the US. Thus, this substance isn’t included in the list of ‘controlled substances.’ It is known for its therapeutic effects on people and even though the research on its healing characteristics is still infancy, that has, in no way, stopped people from consuming CBD oil for treating problems, such as anxiety, depression, chronic pain, seizures, even cancer symptoms.

Recently, CBD oil has been in news for its ability to help in weight reduction. Where does this contention come from? What are the reasons that support its potential as a natural medicine for weight loss? Let’s find out.

How does CBD affect your weight?

Thecannabisradar says “You can look at CBD as a contributor to helping you lose weight”. It has the potential to work wonders for you, if you use it as a supplement, along with exercise and a good diet. It makes you feel good about your body as you slowly and gradually shred the unwanted fat from your body.

A study, published by Neuroscience Letters (2011), revealed that there was a significant decrease in the weight of a handful of laboratory rats who were injected with CBD for 14 days.

Medical News Today states, “CBD does not activate the CB receptors directly, instead of influencing the body’s natural cannabinoids to either block off or activate the receptors. This may play a role in weight loss or other critical metabolic functions.”

Basically, CBD impacts weight loss in three main ways-

  • Supports mitochondria and metabolic health
  • Normalize or regulates insulin
  • Lowers appetite which helps in taking down calories

Once the above ways are controlled, weight loss kicks in.

Can CBD promote weight loss?

There are certain reasons that support the argument. A few of CBD oil’s effects can lead to potential weight loss in a person. Some of these effects are mentioned below-

1. Possible boost in metabolism:  When CBD interacts with CB1 and CB2 receptors, they contribute in boosting up the metabolism and food intake. The same was proven in a 2017 study done on animals.  In another study, done on rats, it was revealed that a significant reduction in the intake of food was seen in the rats after CBD was injected in their bodies. Thus, there is a possibility that CBD would contribute to working up the metabolism and control food intake as well.

2. Might turn white fat cells into brown: There are two kinds of fat cells—white and brown. White fat is known for storing and supplying energy while it is also responsible for generating chronic illnesses, such as diabetes and heart-related problems. Brown fat, however, is known for burning calories by forming heat in the body. White fat is capable of converting into brown fat via exercise, diet, yoga, sleeping well, living in cold situations, and other workouts. According to this 2016 study, CBD helped in the ‘browning’ of white fat by enhancing certain genes and proteins that support brown fat.

3. Burns fat: According to this 2018 research, CBD may melt away that extra body fat as waste material by involving the process of turning white fat into brown fat, as explained in the previous point.

4. Reduces the risk of metabolic diseases: Health conditions, such as Type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure is related to obesity. It has been noted in research that CB1 receptors, when overactivated in the fat tissues, resulting in obesity or weight gain in the body. CBD helps in blocking or regulating the activation of these receptors in the tissues, which helps in weight loss.

Should CBD oil be taken for losing weight?

In all probabilities, yes, CBD oil should be taken for weight loss purpose, because one, it doesn’t come with any side effects and two, it has proven to work as a great health supplement for people. Also, if the anecdotes and research (however limited) are to be believed, CBD oil does play a role in weight loss.

However, it is recommended to use CBD oil as an alternative medical tool for weight reduction. This means that it generally, cannot be the sole product responsible for weight reduction. It works best when taken with the traditional workout, a good diet, and sound sleep.

Conclusion

The current research and studies on CBD’s ability to reduce weight are still infancy. However, one can be assured that nothing bad comes out as a result of consuming CBD. It is safe and available abundance for those who are seeking remedy in many physical, mental and emotional health problems. Also, it comes at quite a reasonable price and is available in abundance in America.

The bottom line is that until more research is done in the area, one cannot 100% assure you that you will definitely get rid of extra fat from your body with the regular intake of CBD. However, CBD will only add value to your desired body, one way or the other. So, waste no time, consult your doctor and get that CBD into your system.
