I have learned that Nickelodeon<\/a> is finalizing deals for The Patrick Star Show<\/a>,<\/em> a SpongeBob SquarePants<\/a><\/em> animated spinoff centered on SpongeBob’s best friend Patrick Star, voiced by Bill Fagerbakke<\/a>.<\/p>\n

I hear voiceover recordings already have started for the project, which is expected to receive a 13-episode order and comes from the creative team behind the mothership series.<\/p>\n

According to sources, The Patrick Star Show<\/em> is in the vein of The Larry Sanders Show<\/em> and Comedy Bang! Bang!,<\/em> with Patrick (Fagerbakke) hosting his own late-night talk show. I hear the series would revolve around Patrick and his family. Fagerbakke is being joined by a largely new cast voicing new characters, with SpongeBob<\/em> cast members expected to make occasional appearances, reprising their roles.<\/p>\n

A rep for Nickelodeon declined comment.<\/p>\n

‘SpongeBob SquarePants’ Spinoff Series ‘The Patrick Star Show’ Set At Nickelodeon<\/a><\/p>\n

In early 2019, Nickelodeon president Brian Robbins announced<\/a> that the network would be developing its first spinoff projects with SpongeBob SquarePants<\/em> characters. The first such project to get a green light was Kamp Koral, <\/em>the upcoming 13-episode, CG-animated SpongeBob <\/em>prequel series, which recently moved from Nickelodeon<\/a> to sibling streamer CBS All Access.<\/p>\n

The new SpongeBob<\/em> spinoff would be one of several new animated projects coming to Nickelodeon, joining the recently announced adaptation of Real Pigeons Fight Crime<\/a>,<\/em> executive produced by James Corden and Ben Winston, and Middlemost Post,<\/em> created by SpongeBob<\/em> alum John Trabbic III.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Created by the late Stephen Hillenburg<\/a> and produced by Nickelodeon in Burbank, SpongeBob SquarePants<\/em> chronicles the nautical and sometimes nonsensical adventures of SpongeBob, an incurably optimist and earnest sea sponge, and his undersea friends.<\/p>\n

Launched in 1999, SpongeBob SquarePants<\/em> has reigned as the No 1 kids’ animated series on TV for the past 18 years, while generating a universe of beloved characters, pop culture catchphrases and memes, theatrical releases, consumer products, a Tony-winning Broadway musical and a global fan base. SpongeBob SquarePants<\/em> is the most widely distributed property in Viacom International Media Networks history, seen in more than 208 countries and territories, translated in 55-plus languages and averaging more than 100 million total viewers every quarter.<\/p>\n

The latest movie in the franchise, The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run<\/em>, will be released on premium VOD and CBS All Access<\/a> in early 2021.<\/p>\n

Fagerbakke is probably best known for playing Dauber on ABC’s Coach<\/em> for nine years; he also was involved in its scrapped<\/a> 2015 reboot series for NBC. The veteran actor played Jason Segal’s dad on CBS’ How I Met Your Mother<\/em> and recurred on Showtime’s I’m Dying Up Here<\/em> and Netflix’s Unbelievable.<\/em> He is repped by Main Title Entertainment.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
