Google has invested $450 million for a 6.6 percent stake in security company ADT, the companies announced today<\/a>. The deal, which is expected to close in the third quarter of this year, will see ADT’s technicians selling and installing Google’s Nest smart home devices, such as cameras and smart displays, as early as this year. Homes and small businesses are said to be the two target markets.<\/p>\n

Eventually, however, Google says<\/a> its Nest devices will become the “cornerstone” of ADT’s smart home offering. The search giant says that its technology will mean fewer false alarms, better event detection, and more helpful notifications for ADT’s customers. Google says that ADT customers will also get access to Nest Aware<\/a>, its subscription service that offers intelligent alerts and 30 days of event history recording.<\/p>\n
