Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. homered for the Blue Jays as World Series champions the Nationals slumped to their third consecutive defeat.<\/p>\n
It was a forgettable outing for the Nationals in Washington, where two outfielders collided on Guerrero’s homer and two errors from second baseman Starlin Castro led to three unearned runs.<\/p>\n
The Nationals – without star slugger Juan Soto – are now 1-4 for the season, usually not a big deal but it is a lot different in 2020 due to the condensed 60-game regular campaign amid the coronavirus pandemic.<\/p>\n

Pujols punished Mariners reliever Nestor Cortes in the fifth inning for his first homer of the season. The 40-year-old is now just three home runs shy of tying Hall of Famer Willie Mays for fifth on the all-time list.<\/p>\n The San Diego Padres topped the San Francisco Giants 5-3 after Fernando Tatis Jr. sent a home run to the right-field porch at Oracle Park. The homer turned an early deficit into a 3-1 lead for the Padres, who improved to 4-1 for the best record in the National League alongside the Cubs.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Cardinals lose Mikolas<\/strong><\/p>\n The St Louis Cardinals will be without starter Miles Mikolas for the remainder of the season. Mikolas – an All-Star in 2018 – requires surgery to repair the flexor tendon in his right arm. St Louis lost 6-3 to the Minnesota Twins.<\/p>\n It was a forgettable night for the Houston Astros, who lost 5-2 to the Los Angeles Dodgers in a spiteful showdown. Welcoming the Dodgers to Minute Maid Park for the first time since the 2017 World Series, which has been overshadowed by the sign-stealing scandal involving the Astros – who went on to outlast the Los Angeles franchise in seven games during that MLB showpiece series, Houston conceded five runs in the fifth inning.
