Carmelo Anthony partnered with longtime friends Dwyane Wade and Chris Paul to launch the Social Change Fund this week, and that’s only the beginning of what the Portland Trail Blazers<\/a> star has planned to address systemic racism and injustice.<\/p>\n The NBA is set to open play on July 30 at the Walt Disney World Resort’s ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Fla. Ahead of the league restart, Anthony told Marc J. Spears of The Undefeated<\/a> that he will be “taking the gloves off” when it comes to his activism during play in the bubble.<\/p>\n “My thing is just to make sure people feel comfortable with speaking on (expletive) that they’re uncomfortable with and holding people accountable for not having those conversations, for not wanting to have those conversations,” Anthony said.<\/p>\n “For me, I’m taking the gloves off. Whatever you want to talk about, let’s talk about it. That’s where I was at, which kind of translated to what I’m doing with my platform, having these conversations with people and bringing awareness to certain situations. Also, educating people. We haven’t been educated [on issues], and now we’re starting to want to be educated.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n Anthony, Wade and Paul simultaneously announced the founding of their new organization<\/a> Wednesday on social media. The Social Change Fund’s overarching goal is to “support critical and timely issues impacting the Black community.”<\/p>\n The ambitious aspirations of the organization and its launch has provided a springboard for what Anthony hopes to accomplish in the coming weeks in the bubble.<\/p>\n For starters, Anthony will take advantage of an agreement between the league and players by having the words “Peace” and “Freedom” on the back of his jersey when play resumes. Odds are that’s just the start for Anthony.<\/p>\n The NBA star has long been a vocal advocate for social justice initiatives.
