Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson is attempting to learn why the anti-Semitic post he made on Instagram last week was so troublesome for Jewish people.

Jackson on Sunday accepted an invitation to visit the site of Nazi concentration camp Auschwitz, where almost 1 million Jews were killed in a German campaign to annihilate their religion. His pledge to travel to the site came in a video conversation with Holocaust survivor Edward Mosberg.

“I grew up in Los Angeles, and never really spent time with anyone from the Jewish community and didn’t know much about their history,” Jackson said on the call. “This has been such a powerful experience for me to learn and educate myself.”

Jackson’s post about Jewish people last week included a quote he mistakenly attributed to Adolf Hitler that accused Jews of plotting to “blackmail” and “extort” America as part of an effort to take over the world. That incorrect line of thinking has historically been used to justify the persecution of Jews.

After an initial half-apology that doubled down on his support of the message, Jackson has reached out to members of the Jewish community to understand why his post was harmful.

“Im taking the time to continue with educating myself and bridging the gap between different cultures, communities & religions,” Jackson wrote on Instagram.
