Melbourne Storm assistant Ryan Hoffman has given an insight into the “emotional” scenes in the Warriors’ locker room as Cameron Smith addressed the side.<\/p>\n
Smith, Hoffman and Storm coach Bellamy entered the Warriors’ locker room immediately after the Storm handed the New Zealanders a 50-6 drubbing, wanting to express their appreciation for the Warriors’ sacrifice.<\/p>\n
Hoffman said that one of the toughest parts of the conversation was trying to express their appreciation without being condescending to the Warriors players.<\/p>\n
“It was tough. We wanted to go in there and I suppose say our appreciation and our admiration for what they’ve been doing,” he told the NRL Sunday Footy Show<\/em>.<\/p>\n “Not only with the move, but what happened with (Stephen Kearney) who’s obviously a good friend of mine and a bloke I played with and was coached by.<\/p>\n “It was very hard to not sound condescending or feel patronising to them, because I’m sure they don’t want sympathy.<\/p>\n “I just wanted to let them know the admiration that I have for Roger (Tuivasa-Sheck) and the team and what they’re doing.<\/p>\n “To be honest, I got a bit emotional talking to them because I know how family is to them.<\/p>\n “I know how much rugby league means to them and to be quite honest they just want their loved ones nearby.”<\/p>\n Kearney’s sacking stunned the NRL world last week, with the Warriors now back to square one once again, and Hoffman said the team’s biggest problem was a lack of continuity.<\/p>\n “The club’s been going for 25 years and I think they’ve had something like 12 coaches,” he said.<\/p>\n “It’s very tough for a club to build a system when you just seem to be going back to square one all the time. They weren’t getting the results under (Kearney) unfortunately.<\/p>\n “You just see the potential up there, and I know that’s the most hated word in New Zealand around the Warriors, but you’d just like to see some continuity there with their squad and with their coaching staff so they can hopefully build a strong playing culture.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Tags:<\/b> Chris De Silva\n<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
