Apple has long used its own processors in many of its devices, and it seems Google could be looking to do something similar for its own hardware.<\/p>\n<p id=\"nJtvXi\">The chip, apparently codenamed &ldquo;Whitechapel,&rdquo; may be an eight-core ARM processor built using Samsung&rsquo;s 5-nanometer process, according to&nbsp;<em>Axios<\/em>. The processor could be optimized to run Google&rsquo;s machine learning technology and may have a portion of the chip designated to improve Google Assistant&rsquo;s performance, according the report.<\/p>\n<div class=\"c-float-right\">\n<aside id=\"jPgCm5\"><q>THE CHIP IS APPARENTLY CODENAMED &ldquo;WHITECHAPEL&rdquo;<\/q><\/aside>\n<\/div>\n<p id=\"oDDz6S\">Google already makes chips of its own for other functions in its devices. Some of its Pixel phones have a security chip called the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2019\/11\/21\/20975650\/google-pixel-titan-m-security-chip-bug-bounty-program-3-3a-4-hack\">Titan M<\/a>, for example, while the Pixel 4 has a coprocessor called&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2019\/10\/15\/20908071\/google-pixel-4-xl-photos-video-hands-on-camera-screen-specs-price\">the Pixel Neural Core<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p id=\"xlivgj\">Right now, though, the main processor on the Pixels are&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2019\/10\/15\/20908152\/google-pixel-4-xl-camera-features-release-date-price-specs-announcement\">made by Qualcomm<\/a>; switching to a custom processor that&rsquo;s designed by Google to optimally run Google&rsquo;s software and services could improve the experience of using future Google hardware much in the way Apple&rsquo;s A-series chips are optimized to run iOS.
