According to Deadline<\/a>, the actress will portray the late princess when she decided during a “critical weekend” in the 1990s that her marriage to Prince Charles wasn’t working.<\/p>\n Stewart playing Diana didn’t sit well with fans, and many questioned the filmmakers’ casting choice. “Plenty of British actresses who would have been better for this role, Princess Diana was classy, Kristen is not. They don’t even look alike,” one Twitter user explained. “I always feel like she’s being pushed and forced upon us, she hasn’t stood out in anything,” another said.<\/p>\n However, Stewart’s fans defended her, stating her success in films like Seberg and Personal Shopper. “As a longtime #KristenStewart stan, she can absolutely convey the subtle emotion we see when rewatching Princess Di’s interviews. I’m like the only person pumped for this I swear,” a fan tweeted.<\/p>\n Filmmaker Pablo Larraín defended his decision to cast Stewart as Diana.
