It is a ledger,\u201d Bono said. \u201cUnused loyalty value expires every year. Public dollars get spent twice on the same person. If we stop both, we get roofs and a smaller deficit.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n The model does not ask families to \u201cpay\u201d out of pocket. It asks airlines, hotel companies, corporations, and individual rewards holders to donate miles and points they often never use.<\/p>\n GiveARoof.org (https:\/\/givearoof.org\/<\/a>) converts those gifts \u2014 plus cash donations \u2014 into booked nights, transportation, and coordinated support. A gift that would otherwise sit unused becomes a door that locks.<\/p>\n Bono serves as Managing Director of The Cupertino Hotel and The Grand Hotel Sunnyvale for De Anza Properties and as President of the Cupertino Chamber of Commerce.<\/p>\n Through GiveARoof.org (https:\/\/givearoof.org\/<\/a>), a California 501(c)(3) nonprofit (EIN 99-2925258), he is advancing a three-year framework built on private-sector capacity first.<\/p>\n The proposal centers on Triage Welcome Centers<\/strong>: one coordinated front door for intake, screening, food, showers, clothing, grooming, coaching, job and vocational support, and a clear next step.<\/p>\n Hotels are reserved for people who have been screened and prepared. Individuals who need specialized mental-health or substance-use care are referred to professional partners \u2014 not placed in a guest room and hoped for the best.<\/p>\n A shared intake and case-management system is designed so participating nonprofits, healthcare providers, and hospitality partners work from one record.<\/p>\n The goal is to stop paying multiple organizations to intake the same person, and to answer four questions every time a dollar or a point is used:<\/p>\n \u201cIf you cannot trace the dollar \u2014 or the mile \u2014 to a roof, you did not help anyone,\u201d Bono said. \u201cScreen, prepare, place, treat, and track.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n GiveARoof.org (https:\/\/givearoof.org\/<\/a>) already demonstrated the donation channel at small scale through United Airlines\u2019 MileagePlus Miles on a Mission program, raising 510,405 miles against a 500,000-mile goal<\/strong>.<\/p>\n The organization now seeks to expand that approach across additional airlines, hotel companies, loyalty programs, corporations, and individual rewards holders.<\/p>\n Bono is also calling for an update to Section 170 of the Internal Revenue Code<\/strong> so qualifying corporate donations of airline miles and hotel loyalty points can receive charitable-deduction treatment based on fair market value.<\/p>\n The change is meant to bring the unused loyalty economy into the same charitable framework that already encourages other gifts of property \u2014 turning value that now expires into shelter, travel for staff and clients, and measurable outcomes.<\/p>\n He presents that reform, together with tighter tracking of existing homelessness spending, as a deficit-reduction tool for the current administration: less duplication, less fraud, more private participation, and no new tax.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n Engagement follows three years of outreach in California that, Bono says, did not produce the engagement the plan required.<\/p>\n His focus now is the private and corporate sector partners who can implement Welcome Centers, shared data, hotel placement, and loyalty conversion at national scale.<\/p>\n GiveARoof.org (https:\/\/scale.givearoof.org\/<\/a>) does not propose replacing government agencies, hospitals, or existing nonprofits.<\/p>\n It proposes connecting them \u2014 hospitality capacity, donated rewards, clinical referrals, and case management \u2014 to results the public can see.<\/p>\n \u201cThree years.
