That trade supports jobs in customs, warehousing, testing, distribution, sales and onward shipping.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The trade data points to specific sectors, and to specific job titles within them.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>The scale behind the job ads<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Non-oil foreign trade reached AED1.937 trillion in the first half of 2026, up 13.1% year on year,<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediaoffice.ae\/en\/news\/2026\/july\/19-07\/mohammed-bin-rashid-uae-non-oil-foreign-trade-approaches-aed2-trillion-in-h1-2026\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the UAE Government Media Office reported<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in July. Non-oil exports hit a record AED452.8 billion over the same six months.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jafza marked its 40th year in May 2025 with $190 billion in trade over the preceding 12 months and more than 11,000 companies on site, DP World reported. The free zone has attracted more than $30 billion in foreign direct investment to Dubai over the past 20 years, and DP World says Jafza and Jebel Ali Port have created more than one million direct and indirect jobs over that period.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Where the goods come from<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The leading suppliers of goods to the UAE in 2024, by share of total imports, were:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">China, 18.9%<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">European Union, 12.6%<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">India, 7.4%<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">United States, 5.9%<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">T\u00fcrkiye, 4.4%<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Japan, 3.6%<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Switzerland, 2.9%<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Vietnam, 2.7%<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Guinea, 2.5%<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">United Kingdom, 2.4%<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Source: World Trade Organization. Note that the EU is counted as a single bloc, which is why individual member states do not appear separately.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you are deciding where to specialise, supplier-region knowledge is worth considering. Familiarity with Chinese, Indian or Turkish supplier documentation, and the language that goes with it, can provide a useful differentiator alongside a general logistics qualification.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>What the UAE actually buys<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Non-monetary gold accounted for 23.4% of imports in 2024 and smartphones a further 8.2%, on the same WTO figures. Other major import categories include motor vehicles, aircraft-related products, petroleum products, jewellery and diamonds.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Agriculture and food, the largest single dependency<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Around 80% of the UAE&#8217;s agricultural products are imported, and those imports were worth $25.4 billion in 2024, up roughly 12% on the previous year, according to the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service exporter guide published in July 2025.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Supplier countries by value in 2024 were the EU 27 ($4.1 billion), India ($3.6 billion), Brazil ($3.1 billion), China ($1.5 billion), the United States ($1.4 billion), Saudi Arabia ($1.2 billion) and Australia ($1.1 billion).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dairy led the categories at $2.0 billion, ahead of beef and beef products at $1.6 billion, poultry meat at $1.3 billion, fresh fruit at $1.2 billion and tree nuts at $1.1 billion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The trade supports roles in cold chain logistics, food safety, HACCP, halal certification, laboratory testing, quality assurance and customs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Supplier positions also move quickly, which keeps sourcing teams busy. Brazil is the largest supplier of chicken meat to the UAE and the United States second, the same agency reports, yet US poultry shipments fell 36% in the first half of 2025, from 51,900 tonnes to 33,200 tonnes.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Three trades, three sets of jobs<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The same import bill supports careers that have almost nothing in common. Three examples show the range.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Gold.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> At 23.4% of imports, non-monetary gold is the largest single line in the country&#8217;s trade. The work behind it is vaulting, assaying, secure transport, insurance and anti-money-laundering compliance.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Processed food.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Brazilian food group BRF invested AED533 million in a KIZAD manufacturing facility with annual capacity of 80,000 tonnes, according to Abu Dhabi Ports. The agreement dates from 2013, so it is an example of food manufacturing that sits on UAE soil rather than a current opening, and plants of that size run on production supervisors, maintenance technicians, quality controllers and warehouse staff.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Live cattle.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> In February 2026 a dedicated cargo aircraft carried 222 Wagyu out of Melbourne Avalon Airport bound for the Gulf,<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.australiaslivestockexporters.com\/australian-wagyu-cattle-export-gulf-markets\/\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">described by the exporter as Australia&#8217;s largest Wagyu livestock air export to date<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The shipment required veterinary certification, quarantine procedures and import documentation, supporting work in veterinary services, animal handling and biosecurity.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>How a trade agreement changes who is hiring<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Non-oil trade with the UAE&#8217;s Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement partners reached AED304.3 billion in the first half of 2026.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Australia-UAE CEPA entered into force on 1 October 2025. Some tariffs went to zero immediately, including those on frozen beef, sheep meat and dairy. Others phase out over three or five stages, with more than 99% of Australian goods exports by value tariff free when the agreement is fully implemented in 2029.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">New tariff positions mean new supplier relationships. Expanding trade corridors can increase demand for sourcing, customs classification and trade compliance expertise.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Emiratisation and what it means for applicants<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Private sector companies with 50 or more employees are subject to a 2% annual increase in Emirati employees in skilled positions, according to the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. Companies with 20 to 49 employees in specified sectors carry additional requirements of their own.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The detail changes from year to year, so it is worth checking the current MoHRE position rather than relying on a summary.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Quick-win checklist<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pick one commodity chain and learn it properly. Gold, electronics, aviation parts and food account for most of the import bill.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Search by function as well as title, since &#8216;quarantine&#8217;, &#8216;HACCP&#8217; and &#8216;classification&#8217; surface roles that &#8216;logistics&#8217; misses.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Track free zone and facility announcements, as new sites hire in batches.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Consider adding a supplier region to your profile, with the documentation practice and language that go with it.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Check a company&#8217;s Emiratisation position if you are an Emirati candidate.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>What to take from this<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The UAE&#8217;s import bill is concentrated in a handful of chains, and each carries its own payroll.
