{"id":21203,"date":"2020-06-06T23:00:00","date_gmt":"2020-06-06T23:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/icrowdnewswire.com\/?p=2585119"},"modified":"2020-06-06T23:00:00","modified_gmt":"2020-06-06T23:00:00","slug":"vmware-snaps-up-network-security-firm-lastline","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ipsnews.net\/business\/2020\/06\/06\/vmware-snaps-up-network-security-firm-lastline\/","title":{"rendered":"VMware snaps up network security firm Lastline"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Terms of the deal were not disclosed but it is expected to close in Q2 of this year<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a class=\"hawk-link-parsed\" href=\"https:\/\/www.techradar.com\/news\/vmware-patches-major-security-flaw-in-cloud-service-delivery-platform\" data-component-tracked=\"1\" data-dimension73=\"8857385851155012000\">VMware<\/a>&nbsp;has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire the network security firm Lastline as the company continues to try and position itself as a provider of cloud-native security tools.<\/p>\n<p>Both companies&#8217; boards have approved the transaction which is expected to close during Q2 of this year pending regulatory approval.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"hawk-widget\" data-render-type=\"fte\" data-skip=\"dealsy\" data-widget-type=\"seasonal\" data-widget-id=\"1481842984952778800\" data-result=\"missing\"><\/aside>\n<p>As reported by&nbsp;<a class=\"hawk-link-parsed\" href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2020\/06\/04\/vmware-lastline-staff-cuts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" data-original-href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2020\/06\/04\/vmware-lastline-staff-cuts\/\" data-component-tracked=\"1\"><em>TechCrunch<\/em><\/a>, a source told the publication that VMware plans to lay off around 40 percent or 50 of Lastline&#8217;s employees as part of the acquisition. However, spokespeople from both companies did not confirm this nor did they provide a comment on the matter.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"cloud-native-security\">Cloud-native security<\/h2>\n<p>Lastline was founded back in 2012 by a team of computer science professors from the University of California, Santa Barbara and Northeastern University which includes Christopher Kruegel, Engin Kirda and Giovannia Vigna.<\/p>\n<p>The company provides businesses with threat detection services ranging from malware analysis to intruder detection and network traffic analysis. Lastline is a cloud-native platform that can secure businesses cloud deployments and on-premises networks as well as multi-cloud and hybrid environments.<\/p>\n<p>In a&nbsp;<a class=\"hawk-link-parsed\" href=\"https:\/\/www.lastline.com\/blog\/lastline-to-be-acquired-by-vmware\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" data-original-href=\"https:\/\/www.lastline.com\/blog\/lastline-to-be-acquired-by-vmware\/\" data-component-tracked=\"1\">blog post<\/a>&nbsp;announcing the acquisition, the company&#8217;s CEO John DiLullo explained how joining forces with VMware will allow Lastline to further protect its customers, saying:<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The protection of our customers is at the center of what we do at Lastline.
