{"id":209929,"date":"2024-07-24T16:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-07-24T16:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/icrowdnewswire.com\/?p=3080124"},"modified":"2024-07-24T16:00:00","modified_gmt":"2024-07-24T16:00:00","slug":"national-advertising-division-recommends-dr-luke-healthcare-discontinue-treatment-claims-for-its-fungal-nail-renewal-product","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ipsnews.net\/business\/2024\/07\/24\/national-advertising-division-recommends-dr-luke-healthcare-discontinue-treatment-claims-for-its-fungal-nail-renewal-product\/","title":{"rendered":"National Advertising Division Recommends Dr. Luke Healthcare Discontinue Treatment Claims for its Fungal Nail Renewal Product"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img width=\"300\" height=\"137\" src=\"https:\/\/icrowdnewswire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/21066499-NAD_PC_RGB_300x300.png\" class=\"webfeedsFeaturedVisual wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" style=\"display: block; margin-bottom: 5px; clear:both;max-width: 100%;\" link_thumbnail=\"\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><em>New York, NY \u2013 July 24, 2024 \u2013 <\/em><\/strong>In a challenge brought by Advantice Health, BBB National Programs\u2019 National Advertising Division recommended that Dr. Luke Healthcare discontinue certain claims for Dr. Luke\u2019s Fungal Nail Renewal product, including health-related claims that the product treats nail fungus, natural claims, and claims that a doctor recommends the product or that it treats a medical condition.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The challenged claims, which appeared on various channels including Amazon, Walmart, and Dr. Luke\u2019s website, position Fungal Nail Renewal as an effective treatment for nail fungus (onychomycosis). \u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Treatment Claims<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The National Advertising Division (NAD) determined that Dr. Luke\u2019s claims that its product treats nail fungus are not supported by competent and reliable scientific evidence.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">NAD determined that the studies on products with acetic acid were not a good fit for the challenged claims because the composition of the products tested, the dosage, and the mode of administration differed from the Dr. Luke product.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">NAD also found that the Food and Drug Administration\u2019s Over the Counter (OTC) monograph regarding 1% Tolnaftate does not support nail fungus treatment claims. Further, NAD concluded that the evidence provided by Dr. Luke regarding the efficacy of the Chinese herb ingredients and the benefit they provide did not support the challenged treatment claims.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0\u00a0NAD recommended that Dr. Luke discontinue the following claims:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>&#8220;Extra Strength Toenail Fungus Treatment for Toenail or Fingernail&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;Repair Onychomycosis deeply&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;Formulated to effectively treat Nail Damage. Nail Fungus. Based on Chinese Traditional Treatment Research&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>\u201cDoctor Recommended\u201d\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>\u201cDr. Luke\u2019s Toenail Fungus Treatment cures nail fungus\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cKills fungus, stops itching and burning, restores your skin and toe&#8217;s health\u201d<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;Repair &amp; Renew \u2013 It can radically repair damaged nails, such as nail discoloration, nail thickening, nail splitting, nail crumbling&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;Extra strong formula, renew damaged nail faster &#8220;<\/li>\n<li>\u201cIt also protects from further damage\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Natural Claims<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The National Advertising Division (NAD) determined that Dr. Luke\u2019s &#8220;natural formula&#8221; claims reasonably convey the message that the product is formulated without artificial ingredients and treats nail fungus through natural ingredients. As the active ingredient in Fungal Nail Renewal is a synthetic compound, NAD found the natural claims to be unsupported and recommended they be discontinued.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Doctor Recommended\/Treatment Claims<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The National Advertising Division (NAD) found that Dr. Luke\u2019s imagery of a man in a white coat with a stethoscope conveys the messages that a doctor recommends the product or that the product treats a medical condition. Although Dr. Luke voluntarily discontinued its doctor-recommended claims, in the absence of supporting evidence, NAD recommended that Dr. Luke modify its advertising to avoid conveying these messages.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">During the proceeding, Dr. Luke permanently discontinued a number of claims.
