The great popularity of South Korean television shows can be credited to the streamer.In 2021, Korean dramas featured a diverse range of theatrical mysteries, dark fantasy, revenge stories, and fluffy romance. There are a few hits on my list of the top dramas, as well as some dramas you may have missed.TV Time conducted the research, and if you\u2019re making your Netflix list and double-checking it, here are the Top 5 South Korean shows broadcast on the platform in 2021.<\/span><\/p>\n

1.Squid Game (One Season, 9 Episodes)<\/b><\/p>\n

Squid Game<\/b><\/a> became a global hit in its first month on the site, with over 142 million subscribers binge-watching the survival thriller. This show beat every prior Netflix record for any previous show. This first one will go down in history as one of the most successful Netflix releases ever. As proof of how big of a hit it was throughout the world? MrBeast, a popular YouTuber, recreated the series in a single video for his channel, which has over 168 million views as of this writing. Saturday Night Live has adapted the series\u2019 backstory into an impossible-to-forget song. According to Variety, squid Game dominated the fall TV conversation, \u201ctopping Netflix\u2019s Top 10 ranking in the US for 24 days and achieving No. 1 in 94 markets.\u201d According to Netflix data, the series received 1.65 billion hours of streaming in the 28 days after its launch on Sept. 17.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

2.Vincenzo<\/b><\/p>\n

Vincenzo, a narrative about a Korean lawyer who works for the mafia, is first difficult to understand, but that\u2019s part of what makes it so addictive. The drama crosses genres a few times, referring to classics like The Godfather, Carrie, The Birds, and others. What is the point of seeing it? Many outrageous episodes in the drama are both campy and tragic. Song Joong-ki, Jeon Yeo-been, and Ok Taecyeon are excellent cartoonish counterparts, and the eccentric supporting cast is highly amusing.<\/span><\/p>\n

3.Hellbound<\/b><\/p>\n

Hellbound follows behind Squid Game, which has been renewed for a second season. This is another dark series with a severe message. However, instead of focusing on capitalism, it discusses the cost of blind trust. If you haven\u2019t seen it yet, in Hellbound, a terrifying face appears to inform sinners that they have been marked for death. Three terrifying, giant demons appear at the appointed hour, just on schedule, to beat the victim. They are then burnt, sending their souls on their way.<\/span><\/p>\n

The official Netflix summary states, \u201cUnbelievable exhibitions of hell take place in the middle of Seoul directly in front of audiences.\u201d \u201cMysterious beings sentence people to hell, and otherworldly beings emerge at precisely the right time to brutally burn the condemned.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

4.My Name<\/b><\/p>\n

In My Name, a Netflix series about a young lady who seeks revenge for her father\u2019s death, lead actress Han So-hee wowed me. Her character (Jiwoo) joins the drug gang her father reportedly worked for in a narrative reminiscent of Martin Scorsese\u2019s The Departed. She begs for training from the big boss, and he accepts. This puts the change of this fragile young woman into a dark, vulnerable, and ruthless killer in action.<\/span><\/p>\n

5.Beyond Evil<\/b><\/p>\n

Shin Ha-Kyun received a Baeksang Award for Best Actor in a Drama for his outstanding performance in this dark drama about a serial murderer and his complicated links to a tiny village in 2021. Yeo Jin-goo plays a detective who believes Shin, a fellow investigator, is involved in the murders. By gradually revealing how the people are linked to the crimes, the novel investigates the concept of evil. Why should you watch it? Shin\u2019s expressions are haunting.<\/span><\/p>\n
