These ancient canines have a fantastic muscular physique, large stature, and ferocious appearance classifying them as one of the most legendary guard dogs. Their name means \u201cguardian.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lineage; History<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Cane Corsos have lineage dating back to ancient Greece and Rome. \u00a0They protected flocks, cattle, property and did other types of farm work. \u00a0Almost a thousand years ago in Tibet, they fought off lions to protect monasteries.<\/p>\n

Greek; Roman Origins <\/strong><\/h3>\n

Cane Corsos belong to a subcategory of Mastiff called Molossian. \u00a0This relates to the Molossian tribe in Epirus, Greece. \u00a0\u00a0After the Molossians’ defeat by Romans, the dogs comingled with Italian breeds bringing the predecessors of today’s Cane Corsos. \u00a0They were larger and more terrifying.<\/p>\n

Virgil, an ancient Roman poet, remarked on how these amazing dogs will always protect from thieves and wolves. \u00a0The Romans used them in war by strapping buckets of flaming oil to the dogs’ backs, charging them into enemy lines.<\/p>\n

Near Extinction to Revival<\/strong><\/h3>\n

When Rome fell, so did Cane Corso’s popularity. \u00a0World Wars I and II along with industrialization compounded their existence to near extinction. \u00a0Cane Corsos made a comeback in the 1970s. \u00a0Eventually, the dogs migrated to the US and appeared in European dog exhibitions.<\/p>\n

Banned Legislation<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Today, there\u2019s an increase in reports of bites and attacks. \u00a0This has provoked legislation banning Cane Corsos in states like Kansas, Oregon, Washington, Arkansas, Idaho, Colorado, Nebraska, and South Dakota.<\/p>\n

Traits; Characteristics<\/strong><\/h2>\n

These historic canines are loyal, intelligent, and wary of strangers. \u00a0Cane Corsos have an imposing presence, intimidating any unwelcome intruder. \u00a0Their barking and growls are piercing, with some Cane Corsos sounding like lions.<\/p>\n

Training<\/strong><\/h3>\n

They\u2019re quick learners and will master anything they put their minds to. \u00a0As pups, they require lots of attention and training to temper their overwhelming energy. Only experienced dog owners should own Cane Corsos. \u00a0This will ensure there won\u2019t be any timidity or indecisiveness on the owner\u2019s part. \u00a0The confidence embodying a Cane Corso should equal the attitude of their owners; setting solid boundaries without fear or hesitation.<\/p>\n

Daily Surroundings<\/strong><\/h3>\n

These massive dogs should have plenty of space with a six-foot-high fence so as not to bother neighbors and other animals. \u00a0Because of their high energy, Cane Corsos need daily exercise, a well-balanced diet, plenty of activities, and multiple long walks.<\/p>\n
