Currently, there is talk of the fourth industrial revolution.\u00a0Industry\u00a01.0 was the time when the steam engine was invented and implemented.\u00a0Industry\u00a02.0 was the moment of electrification.\u00a0Electricity, as we know, replaced steam engines and significantly influenced the scalability and efficiency of production lines.\u00a0Industry\u00a03.0 was the digitisation possible thanks to efficient computers and data processing systems.<\/p>\n

The previous three stages seem quite understandable and obvious, while nowadays, the concept of\u00a0Industry\u00a04.0\u00a0is being talked about more and more openly.\u00a0What is this newest era in the history of industry?\u00a0In\u00a0Industry\u00a04.0, integration between machines and the Internet is key.\u00a0Machines used in production are able to communicate with\u00a0each other\u00a0independently.\u00a0More specifically, in\u00a0Industry\u00a04.0 there is a possibility of information flow between the machines involved in the production process and integration with the company\u2019s production system.\u00a0As part of\u00a0Industry\u00a04.0, people, machines and IT systems automatically exchange data during production.<\/p>\n

Industrial\u00a0Internet of\u00a0Things<\/strong><\/p>\n

When talking about\u00a0Industry\u00a04.0, it is impossible to ignore the phenomenon of\u00a0IoT<\/a>.\u00a0It is a concept closely related to\u00a0Industry\u00a04.0.\u00a0IoT\u00a0concerns the exchange of information between devices, systems and people using the Internet (and very often cloud computing).<\/p>\n

IoT\u00a0is a broad concept that applies to virtually all devices connected to the Internet that will exchange data with each other.\u00a0However, when we talk strictly about devices used in industry, the term\u00a0IIoT\u00a0(Industry\u00a0Internet of\u00a0Things) is used, which clearly emphasises that\u00a0IIoT\u00a0is a large separate technology area.\u00a0IIoT\u00a0is a very wide range of technology, which, apart from the Internet of Things, includes such technologies as\u00a0cloud\u00a0computing,\u00a0machine\u00a0learning, cognitive computing, robotics, 3D printing, and many more different technologies.\u00a0The bottom line is that all these technologies (and devices) work together and exchange data.<\/p>\n

The combination of\u00a0IoT\u00a0and\u00a0Industry\u00a04.0 is clearly noticeable in modern manufacturing companies.\u00a0There are more and more technological solutions and tools on the market that can be described as\u00a0IIoT.\u00a0One such tool is\u00a0ThingWorx, which is a comprehensive platform created for the needs of\u00a0IIoT\u00a0(Industry\u00a0Internet of\u00a0Things<\/a>).\u00a0It is an improvement of\u00a0tools\u00a0and technologies that enables companies to quickly develop and implement advanced applications and solutions in the field of\u00a0augmented\u00a0reality.<\/p>\n

To sum up,\u00a0Industry\u00a04.0 and\u00a0IIoT\u00a0are big trends in the IT market.\u00a0Everything indicates that we will see modern technological solutions more and more often in modern production plants, therefore it should be expected that the\u00a0Industry\u00a04.0\u00a0era is\u00a0just beginning and is something that will significantly affect the efficiency of production processes in the future.<\/p>\n
