Avid traveler Annet Libeau recently discussed what the travel industry could look like in 2021. <\/em><\/p>\n

COVID-19 vaccines are beginning to spread around the country and around the globe. The recent rise in vaccinations has led many to reopen the topic of domestic and international travel. However, even if borders do begin opening and more commercial flights begin taking the skies, there\u2019s no doubt travel will look a lot different in 2021 than it did in previous years. Avid traveler Annet Libeau recently discussed her predictions.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe won\u2019t see travel look the way it did just two years ago for an unforeseeable amount of time,\u201d Annet Libeau said. \u201cWe can\u2019t expect vaccines to immediately repair the travel industry, but we could see travel some benefits from these vaccines entering society.\u201d<\/p>\n

Annet Libeau explained that the vaccine is clearly more complicated than simply receiving a shot and taking it to the skies. The initial shot requires follow-up shots and will be a substantial number of months before a significant number of the population are able to receive the vaccine. Lesser developed parts of the world will have a more difficult time distributing the vaccine throughout their populations, and many of these countries, like Indonesia and India, tend to be popular travel destinations. Annet Libeau added that this doesn\u2019t even account for the large number of people who do not trust the vaccine and may refuse to use it.<\/p>\n

\u201cHowever, we can\u2019t base the entire future of travel on this vaccine,\u201d Annet Libeau said. \u201cOptions like rapid testing could help the travel industry get somewhat back on its feet.\u201d<\/p>\n

Annet Libeau explained that rapid tests easy and cheap to administer, making mass production easier with fewer societal hiccups. Rapid tests don\u2019t require long waits or lockdowns, and they\u2019re much less affected by conspiracy theories. Rapid testing could become a requirement before flying or even a requirement at some airports. However, Annet Libeau explained that, for avid travelers, this could be a small price to pay to resume exploring the world.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe can expect to see new travel passes or passport alterations issued by some countries,\u201d Annet Libeau said. \u201cA new travel pass could indicate a person\u2019s vaccination or rapid testing status.\u201d<\/p>\n

Annet Libeau explained that this isn\u2019t an entirely new concept, as a yellow fever card is required to enter a number of countries. This \u201cCarte Jaune,\u201d shows that someone has been vaccinated against yellow fever.<\/p>\n

Annet Libeau finished by stating that we expect to see hygiene in airports, taxis, hotels, and full travel destinations being of the utmost importance. Strict hygiene practices will be the norm, and travelers will have to adopt them if they\u2019d like an adventure. Overall, Annet Libeau expressed that we can hope to see the travel industry make a slight rebound in 2021, but we shouldn\u2019t expect to see it look like it did in 2019 just yet.<\/p>\n
