The winter blues have finally dispersed, and we are opening the curtains to spring. With this newfound daylight entering the home earlier in the day and later into the evening you may be shocked to find the forgotten crevices of dirty corners and unwashed upholstery that winter has left. So, it’s the perfect time to get your spring clean! Gifting your home a refresh ahead of the sunnier seasons is the best way to embrace the brighter days. From entertaining guests on your freshly washed luxury cushions to BBQing out in the garden on your freshly wiped-down grill, a spring clean is needed before you open your doors for guests to come. Here are 5 tips on perfecting your spring clean, ensuring no stone is left unturned.
1. Create a Cleaning Plan
Before you go all guns blazing in your cleaning cupboard, create a cleaning plan of action. Jumping in without a game plan can leave you doing a half-job in multiple rooms without fully finishing any of them. Instead, make a checklist and tackle one area at a time to avoid losing track. Start with the rooms that need the most attention, such as the Kitchen and most lived in spaces and work your way down. Bonus tip: Set a playlist on your alexa, or listen to a favorite podcast!
2. Declutter Before You Clean
No point in wiping down surfaces covered in clutter, right? Start by sorting through your stuff, old clothes, random junk drawers, and those “I’ll use this one-day” items that haven’t seen daylight in years. Donate what you can where possible, but if you have homeware pieces or clothing that is beyond repair, throw it out and create a fresh new space.
3. Deep Clean Key Areas
Deep cleaning is where it starts to get real. Start by scrubbing the kitchen from top to bottom, clear out the fridge, and wipe down cabinets that have collected months’ worth of fingerprints.
In the bathroom, tackle the grout first and foremost, as this tends to be the hardest area to clean. Be sure to check the labels of the cleaning products you use, as it can be dangerous to mix certain solutions. Wipe down the shower window with white vinegar, and of course finish off my spraying down the toilet, wiping all areas and giving it a good scrub.
Flip your mattress, vacuum under the couch, and wipe down those baseboards you keep forgetting about. Don’t forget to clean up the patio, dust off the outdoor furniture, and make sure that BBQ is guest-ready.
4. Freshen Up Your Space
Now that the worst of the grime is gone, it’s time to make your home feel fresh. Swap out those heavy winter blankets and duvets for lighter ones, and swap out your autumnal Camden & Co cushions for new, spring-summer cushion covers. These small soft furnishing changes can make your living spaces look brand new.
A new candle or a vase of fresh flowers can also do wonders for brightening up a space. And if you’re into natural scents, a bit of lemon or lavender essential oil in your cleaning products can leave your home smelling like a spa.
5. Maintain a Clean Routine
You’ve just gone to all of this effort to create a dream home for yourself, why let it all go to waste? The key to keeping things fresh is a simple routine of daily cleaning tasks that keeps your home fresh 365 days a year.. A little tidying every day (or even just a quick 10-minute nightly reset) makes a huge difference. And if you live with family or roommates, get them in on it too. The more hands, the lighter the work!
Bottom line
Spring cleaning isn’t just about making your home look good, it’s about setting yourself up for an easier, more enjoyable season. With everything clean and in its place, you’ll spend less time stressing over mess and more time soaking up the sun. So, throw on some music, get stuck in, and enjoy that fresh home feeling. You’ve earned it!
