Market America Worldwide President & COO Marc Ashley Surprises 2022 Mideast Regional Convention Attendees With Early Reveals

Ocean City, Maryland, Friday, May 13, 2022 – Market America Worldwide | SHOP.COM’S 2022 Mideast Regional Convention (#MAMERC2022) was held from Friday, May 6 to Sunday, May 8 at the Roland E. Powell Convention Center in Ocean City, Maryland. With a multitude of key leaders slated to take the stage, including Motives Director of Field Development Lisa Martin, Director of WebCenters Jason Pelland, TLS Director of Sales Melanie Nelson, Mideast Regional Director, Don Martin as well as a number of the company’s distributors, known as UnFranchise®Owners (UFOs), most attendees were excited to hear from Market America Worldwide President & COO, Marc Ashley. When Ashley took the stage, he was energized and ready to share what he called “a tossed salad” of news and information regarding how the company got its start and what the company’s current priorities were today. He also gave in-person and virtual attendees a first look at new products planned to be unveiled at the company’s 30th anniversary celebration –– Market America Worldwide | SHOP.COM’s 2022 International Convention (#MAIC2022), to be held in Greensboro, North Carolina, at the Greensboro Coliseum from Thursday, August 11 through Sunday, August 14.

While thousands of UnFranchise Owners are aware that the company was founded in 1992, Ashley said the idea behind the company was first made clear by a man whom Ashley called “a serial entrepreneur” who shared his vision during an interview with a local newspaper.

“We’re getting ready to celebrate our 30th anniversary, but actually, the beginning thought process of Market America | SHOP.COM didn’t start in 1992. The thought of Market America started back in 1984 by this guy, a serial entrepreneur who could never work for someone else. The person I’m talking about is JR Ridinger (Founder, Chairman & CEO of Market America Worldwide | SHOP.COM). This guy is always thinking light years ahead of everybody,” said Ashley. “On June 17, 1984, in a newspaper article, this guy is quoted saying, ‘Other network marketing companies take too much volume and too many people. In 1959, you could make a profit that way. Not anymore.’ Now, look at this quote (from JR). ‘Computer marketing is the coming thing. In five years, home computers will be commonplace, and people will order products by computer.’ These quotes are from 1984. There wasn’t internet at this time or home computers or online shopping. Look at what he says next. ‘The next step will be setting up customers for computer shopping. When that market segment opens up, we’ll be there.’ This is an article from 1984. Is that incredible? That’s eight years before Market America was founded in 1992,” said Ashley.

Ashley spoke about the business beginning in an 800-square-foot home in Greensboro, North Carolina, where he spent weekends boxing up and selling products with his family rather than spending weekends out on the town with friends. He also talked about what the focus for Market America has been over recent years.

“While many companies, including Market America, suffered supply chain issues, labor shortages, manufacturing delays, slower delivery times and increased product pricing and delivery costs, we made sure we met UFO’s and your customer’s demands. We did this by being fluid, flexible, agile and proactive. We spent tens of millions of dollars to increase our staffing levels and inventory levels so supply chain issues wouldn’t disrupt our UFOs’ businesses. While others were profiteering off the demand for certain products, including price gouging, we absorbed these costs because we saw UFO businesses growing,” said Ashley.
