London’s Care Quality Commission rates

When you’re looking for medical care, you’ll be hoping for punctual, efficient and competent aid. But knowing where you’ll get this care can be difficult. However, the Care Quality Commission can help you make this decision. Below, we explore what the Care Quality Commission is and how it rates London.

What is the Care Quality Commission (CQC)?

The CQC is an independent regulator that registers all health and social care providers in England. On top of this, the CQC checks and monitors each provider to ensure that healthcare standards are being met. This is usually achieved via regular inspections. The CQC will evaluate the standards of healthcare in a provider, as well as their transparency and leadership. Providers can be rated from outstanding to inadequate.

London ratings

But how do London’s healthcare ratings look? The CQC recently sent out their ratings for GPs in London and a significant number have been rated at Requires Improvement and Inadequate – as a result, London malpractice claims could increase in the future. Westminster saw three of its providers rated as Inadequate, while Wandsworth, Newham and Redbridge also saw one provider each get a similar rating. Meanwhile, there were plenty of providers rated at Requires Improvement: Croydon had five, Dagenham and Barking had three and Hammersmith had four, amongst others.

NHS and Private hospitals

Fortunately, some of London’s hospitals have been rated as Good. Great Ormond Street Hospital, St Thomas’ Hospital and the Portland Hospital for Women and Children have all been rated as Good by the CQC. Meanwhile, some providers such as the Harley Street Clinic have even been rated as Outstanding. However, some hospitals have been evaluated negatively. University College Hospital & Garrett Anderson Wing, plus St Mary’s Hospital have been rated as Requiring Improvement.

Increased waiting times

A large factor behind the increase in negative ratings could be – partly – down to the increased amount of time that patients are having to wait for treatment. Following the pandemic, healthcare providers are experiencing an increased backlog of patients waiting for treatment. This is particularly noticeable in London where there are significant delays. The average time at the Royal Free London NHS Trust, for instance, is 17.6 weeks. Similarly, Barts Health NHS Trust and the Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust both have waiting times of over 14 weeks.

If you’ve suffered from healthcare that fell below expected standards, then you could consider making a medical negligence claim. Making a claim can help you win the compensation you deserve to help you with your physical and/or mental recovery. Just speak to an experienced professional today to see if your claim stands a chance of winning.
