The Science Olympiad Foundation hosts an annual mathematics competition known as the International Mathematical Olympiad, or IMO (SOF). The purpose of the Olympiad, which is open to kids in grades 1 through 12, is to discover and assist individuals who have the potential to become future scientists or technologists. IMO also assists pupils in competing against students from all across the country or the world. It allows them to assess their mathematical abilities. The organizer of IMO, SOF, is a non-profit educational organization dedicated to the academic advancement of pupils. Eligibility
Students in grades 1 through 12 who desire to test their academic ability in mathematics can apply for IMO. All of the participants must first pass the Level 1 test before moving on to the Level 2 exam.
Level 1
All students in grades 1 through 12 are eligible to take the Level 1 test, regardless of their grade. The more loosened qualifying standards help to increase the number of students who participate. Students in grades 1 to 12 who are pursuing schooling in the United States or abroad are eligible to take the IMO Level 1 test.
Level 2
Only students who achieve a minimal performance level in the Level 1 test are considered for the Level 2 exam. The following students are eligible to take the Level 2 exam:
- The top 5% of students in each class will be qualified for the Level 2 test.
- The top 25 zone and class rank holders will also be considered.
- Each participating school’s class toppers, with at least 10 students from each class taking the exam and scoring 50% qualifying marks.
- The highest rank holder in section-wise registration would be qualified for Level 2.
It should be emphasized, however, that students in Classes 1 and 2 are not required to take the Level 2 test. Only the Level 1 test will be used to evaluate their performance.
Application process
Eligible students should contact their individual schools to apply for IMO. Students can submit an application through their schools by following the steps below:
- The prospectus with the registration forms will be sent to the schools that have registered with SOF.
- As a result, schools must first register them with the SOF. The IMO registration forms can then be obtained from the students’ individual schools.
- If the school has not yet registered with SOF, the prospectus can be requested by contacting SOF. · SOF may be reached by phone (0124-4951200) or email (info@sofworld.org) By schools.
- Interested applicants should next complete the IMO registration forms and send them to their individual institutions with all of the necessary information.
- After that, the schools must send the completed registration forms to SOF before the deadline.

Exam levels
Level 1
The Level 1 test is taken by students in grades 1 through 12. There are no minimum marks requirements, allowing a large number of students to compete in the Olympiad. The following are the key characteristics of the IMO Level 1 exam:
- The Level 1 test is held during regular school hours. Only the pupils’ respective schools are involved.
- It’s a 60-minute exam with just English as a medium of instruction.
- The exam paper contains objective-type questions. Students in grades 1 through 4 must answer 35 questions, while students in grades 5 through 12 must answer 50 questions in total.
- The IMO question paper is divided into four sections:
® Everyday Mathematics (Section 1)
® Logical Reasoning (Section 2)
® Mathematical Reasoning (Section 3)
® Section of Achievers (Section 4)
- Each part has its own weighting, which is beneficial in the event of a tie.
- A distinct question paper is given to each class.

Level 2
Students who score well in the Level 1 test have a chance to advance to the Level 2 exam.
