Norma Obergh, Express Immigration Northridge

Princeton,NJ/ 360prwire/ November 3/

Norma Obergh’s life-long passion for assisting immigrants obtain legal status in the United States began as a child.

After living in the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico, Norma arrived with her parents in New York City as a young child. There, she grew up in a richly-diverse immigrant community, living amongst immigrants from the Caribbean, Italy, Ireland and other nations. Experiencing so much diversity at a young age, Norma came to deeply understand how immigrants add richness to the culture of the United States. Norma became driven later in life to help immigrants from all over the world achieve their dream of U.S. citizenship.

She is especially passionate about helping clients obtain citizenship through Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). Growing up, she witnessed how the adults in her community had to rely on their children to navigate through the legal system. In fact, she often translated for her own parents in different situations, much like children of immigrants do today. It’s this kind of experience that allows Norma to empathize with the many young adults who came to this country as children. Her goal is to ensure that her clients are able to achieve their dreams in this country by becoming citizens.

From her own personal experience, Norma understands how life changing it can be to become a U.S. citizen. Becoming a citizen can mean the difference between having an intact family or reuniting with family members, versus being separated from loved ones. Becoming a citizen can mean having a more stable, well-paying job, instead of working day-to-day. Becoming a citizen can mean alleviating the stress and anxiety that comes with not having a permanent legal status in the United States. Norma understands that there are many people who have lived in the US for years and haven’t been able to legalize, either due to incorrect legal advice or lack of understanding of the system.

Norma offers professional, compassionate legal services to the immigrant community in the San Fernando Valley and has been doing so for the past 30 years. She often provides free immigration advice to those in need. Her services include Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), naturalizations services, consular visa processing, family visa petitions, adjustment of status applications, amongst others.  During her many years serving the community, she has provided affordable legal services that have allowed hundreds of people to become U.S. citizens.

Norma’s roots in the San Fernando Valley are well-established. After growing up in the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, and New York City, she finally settled down in California, where she got married and raised her children. In her spare time, she works on her home remodeler projects and gardening. She frequently gifts her neighbors with the fruits and vegetables from her organic backyard garden. After work, she enjoys relieving stress by hiking the hills behind her Granada Hills home. At social events, she’s the life of the party, breaking the ice on the dancefloor before anyone else. Not only that, but she’s even been known to perform a wedding or two.
