Advice For Choosing A Bathroom Tile

When it comes to choosing the right type of tile for your bathroom, this can be a stressful thing as it is a decision that you want to get correct. This is because getting it wrong is an expensive mistake to have to incur. Where they are used right, bathroom tiles can help to create a certain mood or even show off your personality.

Establish a budget

It is always good to start off by determining what your budget for the project is, even if it is a wide value range. This way it stops you getting carried away with your thoughts and falling in love with a tile that you simply cannot afford. By keeping costs in check with your tiles, it may then allow you to spend more on other areas of your bathroom, including a beautiful bath tub or a terrific toilet. Victoria Plum does a great range of bathroom furniture.

Work out how many you need

First you need to make a decision on where you want the tiles to be in your bathroom. For instance, do you want them just on the floor or do you want the entire room covered in them. Once the level of coverage has been determined, you are then able to work out the square footage for the bathroom’s footprint. You must have enough tiles to cover this space with extras added for wastage. Repeat this process for the walls and all other areas of the bathroom that are going to be tiled.

Decide on a colour scheme

With tiles coming in a wide range of colours, choosing one can be difficult as you are almost spoilt for choice. For this reason, you should begin with deciding what colour accent tile you want. You can then go on from there to work out the colours of the rest of the tiles in your bathroom. However, it is probably best to stick to using mature neutral colours and tones for most areas of the bathroom.

Find your favorite pattern

If you have settled on a tile for your bathroom that is rectangle or square shaped then there are lots of different patterns that these can be laid down in. One of the most popular is the classic running bond pattern. This is similar to a brick pattern, with the tiles being placed either horizontally or vertically. Some other patterns include stacked, diagonal, and basket weave. Different types of tiles lend themselves better to some of these patterns than others.

Think about the grout

Once you have decided on the type and colour of the tiles that you are going to use in your bathroom, you then need to think about the colour of the grout as this can have a significant impact on the overall finish of the bathroom. As part of this you should consider whether you want the lines of grout to simply blend in and take a backseat or if you want them to stand out and make themselves known.
