Washington’s NFL team has yet to select a permanent new name after retiring the previous one due to its racist nature and controversy, but one Reddit user believes he’s figured out what the organization will call themselves in the future.
According to Reddit user “staticrush,” the same company that registers and manages “Redskins.com” has registered a new domain titled “DCSentinels.com.”
This is far from official, though it’s interesting to see that the paperwork was cited in the anonymous person’s discussion.
However, ESPN NFL reporter John Keim reported that Washington will not be called the Sentinels.
“Redtails” is one suggestion that has been popular among fans — even Dwayne Haskins liked the name — but it isn’t included on the list of odds released by BetOnline.ag to be Washington’s new team name. Some other interesting choices were on there like the “Jeffersons” and “Roosevelts.”
The “Generals” also is a possible name for the team. The Harlem Globetrotters’ owner, who owns the right to the Washington Generals name, would love to have Washington purchase the rights to the name, too,.
Washington changed its name from the Braves to Redskins in 1933 and has been the subject of protests by Native-American groups and others since. Washington owner Dan Snyder has for years refused a name change despite several different court battles, but he decided to officially change the name after FedEx threatened to remove its sponsorship.
