Creatives Pay Tribute To Milton Glaser, Design Icon Who Dies On 91st Birthday

Milton Glaser, the famed designer behind the ‘I NY’ logo, died on 26 June 2020, the very day he turned 91.

Glaser was best known for designing the ubiquitous ‘I NY’ logo to promote tourism in New York. He also gained widespread attention on his psychedelic artwork for Bob Dylan’s Greatest Hits album.

His wife, Shirley Glaser, told The New York Times that the cause of his death was a stroke. Glaser also suffered from renal failure.

Tributes poured in after the internet learned of the passing of the renowned designer. Many creatives took to Twitter to pay homage to the designer by unveiling their own artworks, highlighting how Glaser has inspired them in different ways, as well as shared their favorite work by him.

“Thank you for your transforming design, intelligence and kindness,” Christoph Niemann wrote. “You got us all started, and caring,” Chipp Kid tweeted.

Back in 2010, DesignTAXI had the honor of interviewing Glaser, who looked back on possible regrets.

“I have no regrets but I might go back and change everything,” he mused.

“I’ve lived a rich and full and interesting life doing the work that I wanted to do.”

Designer not only of the iconic “I NY” logo, but also the just-as-iconic (to nerds) DC Bullet. RIP, Milton Glaser.https://www.nytimes.com/2020/06/26/obituaries/milton-glaser-dead.html?action=click&module=News&pgtype=Homepage&fbclid=IwAR3juY3O1Lv7nj8XiIPbS83Wv8dpewcj_XJFbGf1ol5HdxTgano_N3_gIUI

Milton Glaser (1929-2020). Shakespeare is intertwined in my mind with the covers he did for the Signet paperback editions.

Here’s my little tribute to Milton Glaser who most famously designed the “I Love New York” logo that is as recognised today as when it was first created in 1977.
