Khan Bank moves to Apache Cassandra with DataStax

Mongolia-based, Khan Bank, has partnered with data management company, DataStax, to improve its digital banking technology.

DataStax’s Enterprise software will be installed at Khan Bank alongside the opensource Apache Cassandra database.

“At Khan Bank, our business must maintain sustainable growth and sound profits, and we need a broad vision that consistently engages in new ideas,” says Sachin Nair, CIO.

He adds that the bank’s IT strategy revolves around “being able to implement agile software development and microservices.”

Cassandra was picked as the database for the bank’s new operational data layer. DataStax was thought to be “the best partner” to support the change.

Founded in 1991, Khan Bank is the largest commercial bank in Mongolia, providing banking services to an estimated 70% of Mongolian families.

Originally founded as the Agricultural Cooperative Bank, it assumed most of the assets and businesses of the State Bank of Mongolia in rural areas.

“The move to digital banking services is a worldwide phenomenon and Khan Bank’s approach is leading the market in Mongolia,” says Simon Molenberg, general manager for APAC at DataStax.
