Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales features ray-tracing on PS5, similar scope to Uncharted: The Lost Legacy

Miles and New York City look better than ever.

What you need to know

arvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales is one of the exciting surprises revealed during Sony’s PlayStation 5 showcase, The Future of Gaming. This new title from Insomniac Games is being developed exclusively for the PS5 and while there was some initial confusion, it’s been confirmed to be a true game, not a remaster or expansion.

Now, Insomniac has offered another update on the game, sharing some details on how big it is and how it’s using the PS5’s tech. In addition to taking advantage of the DualSense controller, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales features ray-tracing, 3D audio and near-instant loading.

Insomniac also talks about the scope of this game, which is similar to Uncharted: The Lost Legacy and focused entirely on Miles. The story takes place around a year after the events of Marvel’s Spider-Man. Peter Parker is still okay but he’s not the focus of this game.

It’s important to note that having ray-tracing can mean a lot of different things. Maybe they’re being used for all reflections, or just some, or for shadows. We’ll have to wait for a deeper technical dive before we can tell but the mention of ray-tracing at all is promising.

Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales is aiming to release exclusively for PS5 sometime in Holiday 2020, either as a launch title or coming shortly after the console is available. We’ll continue to share more as more information is released.
