Economics Editor

Inter Press Service (www.ipsnews.net) is an independent international news agency specialising in in-depth coverage of national and international events and trends. IPS is a leading provider of news features from the South and about development, globalisation, human rights and civil society.

IPS is looking for a specialised part-time editor (50%) who can take charge of a special series on trade and investment in Africa. The editor will be based in Brussels and will be covering European initiatives regarding trade and investment in Africa

The editor will recruit freelance writers, assign and edit stories and make sure that these stories are transmitted properly.

What we are looking for:

    At least five years of relevant experience
    Excellent writing skills, including experience in writing stories under tight deadlines
    Excellent knowledge of European aid and trade policy and knowledge of trade and investment issues in Africa
    Experience in managing and motivating a team of freelance journalists
    An excellent command of English; knowledge of French is a strong asset
    Ability and willingness to travel

What we offer:
    A journalistic challenge covering interesting subjects with an international team of dedicated journalists
    An open-ended engagement, after an initial probationary period. The initial project duration is three years: from March 1, 2007, till December 31, 2009.
