Laurel, Md. \u2013<\/strong> Maryland University of Integrative Health (MUIH) announced today that it has signed an educational agreement with Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USU). The goal of this agreement is to provide graduate interprofessional learning experiences for students enrolled at each institution.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are excited to work with USU to build interprofessional relationships that recognize and combine the value of integrative health and conventional medical approaches to provide high-quality health care,\u201d says Christina Sax, MUIH\u2019s Provost and Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs.<\/p>\n

MUIH and USU are dedicated to building integrative health frameworks that enhance the health and well-being of those they serve. At present, much of the re-design of these frameworks has occurred within healthcare facilities. This partnership will allow re-design and innovation to start within educational organizations thereby building interprofessional teams at the ground-level. These interprofessional teams will better understand each other\u2019s roles, the value they bring, and how to optimally work together to further enhance patient health.<\/p>\n

Among the first steps are opportunities for MUIH\u2019s acupuncture students and faculty to engage with USU medical students enrolled in an integrative health and battlefield acupuncture (BFA) elective with BFA developer, Dr. Richard Niemtzow, retired Air Force colonel at the Acupuncture and Integrative Medicine (AIM) Center at Joint Base Andrews. Through these experiences, integrative health and medical students can gain deeper insight into each other\u2019s practices and the ways that they can work together to support patients. Ultimately, inter-professional experiences and understanding such as this contribute to the future and improvement of the health care system in our country.<\/p>\n

MUIH offers master\u2019s and doctoral degrees and graduate certificates in a wide range of disciplines that prepare practitioners and professionals to support health and wellbeing. These include programs in acupuncture, Ayurveda, cannabis science, health promotion, health and wellness coaching, herbal medicine, integrative health studies, narrative health, nutrition, workplace wellness, and yoga therapy.<\/p>\n
