Laurel, Md. \u2013<\/strong> Maryland University of Integrative Health (MUIH) is pleased to announce that two of its academic leaders in health promotion have received awards from the Integrative, Complementary, and Traditional Health Practices (ICTHP) Section of the American Public Health Association (APHA).<\/p>\n Claudia Joy Wingo, chair of MUIH\u2019s health promotion program, received the ICTHP Impact Award. This award represents leadership, education, outstanding research, and\/or advocacy in the field of ICTHP such as spearheading ICTHP initiatives and education in integrative, complementary, and public health with a demonstrated record of achievement. It is reserved for leaders in the field. Claudia received this award in recognition of her forty-plus years as an innovative leader and educator, practitioner, and researcher in the field of both ICTHP and public health education and promotion.<\/p>\n “After 40 plus years working in the field of integrative and complementary health, it’s rewarding to know that both public health and the US healthcare system is recognizing that ICH is a valid and evidenced-informed part of the patient experience. Being patient-centered has always been our model,” said Claudia Joy Wingo.<\/p>\n Katherine Smith, a faculty member in MUIH\u2019s health promotion program and health and wellness coaching program, received the Emerging ICTHP Leadership Award. This award is given to individuals who have demonstrated commitment to research, education, and\/or advocacy in the field of ICTHP. The awardee must be an early-mid career professional working at the intersection of ICTHP and public health. Katherine Smith received this award for her recent work on a \u2018wellinar series\u2019 for the membership of APHA.<\/p>\n “I am honored to receive this award from the APHA and excited to work at the intersection of integrative health and public health.\u00a0 The fact that the APHA president attended and embraced the topic of guided imagery and ecotherapy is another step forward for further appreciation of the benefits of the integrative health field.\u00a0 This project was a team effort and something we hope to build on in the year ahead,” said Katherine Smith.<\/p>\n MUIH has offered an online Master of Science in Health Promotion with a focus on integrative health practices since 2014, and in 2018 added a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Workplace Wellness.
