The Disney+ Star Wars series The Mandalorian lands 15 Emmy nominations, including Best Drama, special effects, voice-over work, and guest actor.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/header>\n

The Mandalorian<\/a>, <\/strong><\/em>the first Star Wars TV series, <\/strong><\/em>landed 15 Emmy Award nominations, including Best Drama. The nominations for the 72nd Primetime Emmy Awards were announced online Tuesday morning. While Netflix dominated with the most nominations, Disney+ also made its mark.<\/p>\n

Set five years after the events of Star Wars: The Return of the Jedi<\/em>, The Mandalorian<\/em> follows Pedro Pascal’s Din Djarin, a lone gunfighter who must protect The Child, a member of the same species as Jedi Master Yoda, otherwise known as “Baby Yoda.”<\/a> The duo goes on an adventure to reunite the child with his people while trying to avoid other bounty hunters who want to take him. Created by Jon Favreau, the eight-episode series quickly became a success and was universally praised by critics and Star Wars fans shortly. Much of that success was due to a combination of its release with the launch of Disney+<\/a> and the pop-culture sensation of Baby Yoda. Now the series is getting a surprising nod from the Television Academy.<\/p>\n

The Mandalorian<\/em> is nominated for 15 Emmy Awards, including Best Drama, per Deadline<\/em>. Along with the best drama nod, the show also scored nominations for Taika Waititi’s voice-over performance as IG-11 role, guest actor in a drama series for Giancarlo Esposito<\/a>, production design, cinematography, special visual effects, fantasy\/sci-fi costumes,  music composition, prosthetic makeup, stunt coordination, two sound editing, and three single-camera editing awards. The nominations make The Mandalorian<\/em> the first Star Wars<\/em> show to be nominated in a major category at the Emmy Awards.<\/p>\n

\"Baby<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n

Emmy categories in the past have recognized Star Wars<\/em>. The animated Star Wars Rebels<\/em> and Star Wars Resistance<\/em> both received Creative Arts Emmy nominations, and Star Wars: Clone Wars<\/em><\/a> won the Emmy for animated programming 2004 and 2005. The Mandalorian<\/em> is also the first live-action Star Wars series to be nominated since the 1985 ABC Ewoks<\/em> movie. Overall, Disney+ counted 19 Emmy nominations, with 15 coming from The Mandalorian<\/em>.<\/p>\n

These nominations are a big win for the Star Wars<\/em> franchise. With Game of Thrones<\/em> out of the running this year for best drama, there’s more room for other shows to have a chance at winning. Plus, fans will be happy to see that even Baby Yoda technically got an Emmy nod with the special effects nomination. The Mandalorian<\/strong><\/em> certainly made a big movement in pop culture since its season 1 release, so it’s nice to see the show receive prestigious recognition in time for season 2’s arrival<\/a> in October.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
