It&rsquo;s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/pokemongolive.com\/post\/realityblending-announcement\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">testing<\/a>&nbsp;a Reality Blending feature that will use newer AR functionality to hide your Buddy Pok&eacute;mon behind trees and other real-world objects. The current effect isn&rsquo;t quite as convincing as the image above would have you belive (it&rsquo;s a bit crude), but it&rsquo;s less jarring than no object recognition at all.<\/p>\n<p>The initial testing will be limited to a handful of random Android players using the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/2018-03-08-samsung-galaxy-s9-and-s9-plus-review-video.html\" data-rapid_p=\"3\" data-v9y=\"1\">Galaxy S9<\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/2019-03-04-samsung-galaxy-s10-review-with-camera-samples-fingerprint.html\" data-rapid_p=\"4\" data-v9y=\"1\">Galaxy S10<\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/2018-10-15-google-pixel-3-pixel-3-xl-review-android-pie.html\" data-rapid_p=\"5\" data-v9y=\"1\">Pixel 3<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/2019-10-21-google-pixel-4-and-4-xl-review-motion-sense-cameras.html\" data-rapid_p=\"6\" data-v9y=\"1\">Pixel 4<\/a>. Niantic plans to expand the feature to other devices going forward. With that said, we can&rsquo;t imagine the company being in a rush when the pandemic still dictates&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/2020-03-13-niantic-cancels-pokemon-go-and-wizards-unite-community-days.html\" data-rapid_p=\"7\" data-v9y=\"1\">avoiding other people<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"o-article_block pb-15 pb-5@m- mt-n35 mt-n25@m mt-n15@s\">\n<div class=\"grid@tl+\">\n<div class=\"full-width@tp- grid@tl+__cell col-8-of-12@tl+\">\n<div class=\"article-text c-gray-1 no-review\">\n<p>If it is safe to venture outside, though, you can soon help improve AR features. The developers are working on a Pok&eacute;Stop Scan that, like a similar feature in&nbsp;<em>Ingress<\/em>, lets you help map a location in AR by recording short (under 10 seconds) videos of the area. These will help Niantic&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/2020-03-31-niantic-buys-6dai-for-planet-scale-ar.html\">create 3D maps<\/a>&nbsp;of Pok&eacute;Stops and Gyms to refine the overall experience.
