When leaders from the City of Stow, OH, decided to upgrade its Community Development operations, they chose to partner with OpenGov, the leader in modern cloud software for our nation’s cities, for online permitting and  virtual inspection software.

Staff from Stow, located just northeast of Akron, struggled throughout the pandemic to manage permitting operations with the City’s legacy software system. Because of this experience, leaders decided it was time to enhance the online services they offer the community while also providing building inspectors the ability to offer digital inspections in the field. After reviewing several software options, leaders ultimately chose OpenGov Citizen Services as the best solution to modernize permitting and inspection services.

With OpenGov Citizen Services, the City will be able to offer residents an online solution for permitting applications  and contractors convenient, online scheduling for building inspections. For inspectors, once a schedule is set, OpenGov’s solution will optimize a daily route of inspections to maximize efficiency and inspectors’ time. During an inspection, findings and photos can be uploaded from a mobile device and populate into a database, where applicants can see results. OpenGov Citizen Services also offers residents the ability to apply and pay for licenses and permits through a customer-friendly online portal. This not only streamlines permitting and licensing operations, but also saves staff time in responding to phone and in-person requests.

The City of Stow joins more than 1,100 public sector organizations leveraging OpenGov to revolutionize work processes with cloud-based software designed specifically for the needs of government.
