Background of Dr. Candice Matthews, formerly known as Dr. Candice Enecio-Hinton

For Dr. Candice Matthews, creating the accountability program and serving as chair was a natural progression from a lifetime of holding elected officials accountable and fighting for people of color.

As the CEO and executive director for Children of Diversity Foster Adoption Agency, Matthews has strived to improve the lives of children via placement in licensed foster homes and access to therapeutic services. For many children, the services are necessary to help them process the trauma that brought them to the foster care system and to develop the resilience necessary to move forward. The agency collaborates with the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, other governmental agencies, universities and additional organizations to meet these needs.

The accountability chair role also complements an additional position at the helm of the Texas Steering Committee for the Rainbow Push Coalition.

Dr. Candice Matthews, formerly known as Dr. Candice Enecio-Hinton, and the larger committee help determine and reassess the direction of projects undertaken by the coalition in Texas.
