Morris Kandinov LLP Launches Next Generation Securities & Shareholder Rights Law Firm

SAN DIEGO, California–(Legal Newswire)–Morris Kandinov LLP (“MoKa”) announced today that it began operations as a law firm dedicated to retail and institutional investors. The firm offers four practice areas: (i) corporate governance litigation; (ii) securities class actions; (iii) asset management litigation; and (iv) direct actions on behalf of institutions. The firm intends to pursue only cases that satisfy its core purpose: advancing and protecting the interests of shareholders and the fairness, transparency, and efficiency of the public financial markets.

“I am thrilled to launch a firm focused from the outset only on what we care about the most: cases that present an opportunity to develop and advance the laws protecting investors,” Aaron Morris said. “The members of the firm each have years of experience working for investors, but we have much left to accomplish.”  “Investment fraud continues to present in ever-evolving forms, most recently in the wave of SPAC mergers with questionable companies, and investors still face systemic challenges, such as asset managers that continue to charge enormous fees in the face of poor performance and even catastrophic losses.”

“I am looking forward to continuing to work with our client base of retail and institutional investors who trust us to monitor their portfolios for corporate misconduct and recover losses from those responsible,” Leo Kandinov said.  “My favorite part of this business is the diversity of the clients we have the privilege of serving.  Every new case brings the opportunity to meet new people and to serve long-time clients, which is rewarding.”

At launch, the firm will consist of four attorneys:

  • Leo Kandinov, who has overseen hundreds of corporate investigations and shareholder complaints in courts across the country, and counsels institutions and fiduciaries on how to handle portfolio losses caused by fraud.  Mr. Kandinov will lead the firm’s client services and business development functions.
  • Aaron Morris, who specializes in recovering investment losses for investors in public companies, funds and other investment products, with particular focus on cases involving asset managers and financial institutions.  Mr. Morris formerly represented a range of financial services clients while at an international law firm in Boston.
  • Andrew Robertson, who brings decades of trial experience in cases involving investment losses, breaches of fiduciary duty, and securities fraud, including work on “both sides of the aisle.”  Mr. Robertson previously represented public companies, asset managers, and boards of directors while at an international law firm in New York.  Since then, he has handled numerous trials and arbitrations for investors and has argued before federal appeals courts across the country.
  • Gina Stassi, who specializes in shareholder derivative litigation and consumer class actions, primarily in the state and federal courts of California.  Ms. Stassi has handled a number of cutting-edge cases in California and brings a broad range of experience in business and consumer litigation, including cases arising from the subprime meltdown, false advertising, insider trading, and other corporate misconduct.

“I am excited to partner with Aaron and Leo, and share their vision for MoKa,” Andrew Robertson said.  “I look forward to working with them to protect investors through principled, leading-edge litigation.”

The firm will have a physical presence in California, New York, and Vermont, but will handle cases in jurisdictions nationwide.  “We are truly a go-anywhere firm, and are lucky to have an extensive network of lawyers, academics and experts throughout the country that we can leverage to litigate wherever necessary to recover for our clients,” Aaron Morris said.
