Bus Crash On New Jersey Turnpike Kills 1, Injures 5

Five people were injured and one person was killed in a New Jersey Turnpike bus crash on November 30th, 2019. Authorities said the bus accident happened in Mercer County when a concrete barrier stopped a charter bus from falling into a creek across the Turnpike.

The accident occurred on the night of Thanksgiving around 8:45 pm in the southbound outer lanes near exit 7A. State Police Sgt. Lawrence Peele stated that the cause of the accident remains under investigation.

Bus Driver Required Extrication

There were 20 passengers on the charter bus which belongs to Skyliner Travel and Tours Bus Corp. The bus was coming from Philadelphia and headed to Manhattan. The bus collided into another car and was about to go off the road near Mile Marker 57.

Peele confirmed that the bus driver was trapped and had to be extricated in the accident that claimed the life of one person. The union representing a group of Robbinsville firefighters that responded to the scene tweeted that the bus driver was safely extricated.

However, there is no immediate information about the present condition of the bus driver. The driver was pulled out from the debris and sent to Capital Health in Hopewell with moderate injuries.

Five Others Injured

There were five other people that were injured during the accident. One of the victims was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in Hamilton.

Police reported that a Hyundai car traveling behind the charter bus was also damaged by the debris, although the driver was unhurt. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

The bus crash appeared to be the first fatality on the Turnpike during the holidays. State Police claimed that 7 people were killed in crashes during the 2018 holiday season.

Don’t Wait to Act or Pursue a Bus Crash Claim

Bus accidents are not very common in New Jersey. However, they cause serious injuries when they do occur. Statistics show that motor coaches are the most involved in accidents with more than 80,000 destructive accidents reported each year.

New Jersey victims only get one chance to pursue their accident compensation. This makes it important to seek counsel from an experienced cross country bus accident attorney. Cases cannot be reopened later to ask for more compensation.

In addition, the statute of limitations in New Jersey is tight. The state offers two years for a victim to act or pursue a lawsuit. In some situations, victims are required to take action in less than 90 days. It’s essential to bring a cross country bus accident lawyer onboard as soon as possible.
